  • I agree with most of you tips and this afternoon will definately make the fruit loaf and sandwiches as suggested by loopy-loo. Also gives me something to do with the kids who are driving me mad today. I try to make some of my routine phone calls from work (nobody minds as long as they are less than five minutes) also text my friends to tell tehm im thinking of them but will catch up at a later date. Normally ring them about once every fortnight. This has saved a fortune and they love the txt's! My biggest expenditure is the car. We live in the middle of nowhere and need the car for every journey. Four miles to the nearest shop, Five miles to nursery/school and 25 miles to work. I would live to be able to take bikes but the schedules are tight. Public transport is non existant and would take me 3 hours to get to work. No good if Im starting at 7. I am mindful of unnecassary journeys but any tips to save on the fuel will be greatly appreciated. Whilst writing this message just heard form the garage. My annual service has just cost me £180 and I need a new tyre. Please help x
  • Exactly my point aardvaak - thanks for that.

ANYWAY why is this thread turning into a debate about blooming kids parties??? That was not the point of this thread. Any genuine tips would be great -

Lauren seens to be doing her bit to keep her family out of debt. Good for her. Children's parties are getting really ridiculous. It's more a show off time for the parents. How to not spend money? Stay in...lol.

When food shopping I always look for the whoops stickers, especially for meat and plan our meals around the bagged bargains. Remember to take any coupons you can find as you can use them off your shopping in Asda and Tescos even if you havent bought the item (as long as the shop stocks it they will accept it).
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.
  • Hi Louise, do you know what mags usually do coupons? Dont know of many. Thanks x
  • My husband is not allowed his bank card

Oh come on hubby has no bank card and isn't allowed a burger, kids can't go to parties....sounds like mum has to be in control
  • yes well thanks to me we have no loans, credit cards, just a mortgage. If he was in control of our finances, we'd be in dire straights. Thanks for asking

Ignore all the sour comments Lauren, I get where you're coming from.

OH and I would like to be mortgage free by the time we have kids so we're gonna have to be every bit as strict if we want it paid off within the 6 years we'd like.

Your hubby not eating Big Macs won't do his waistline any harm either, look at it that way ;)
