Well the site is still down and I've not yet had a letter. I'll wait to see if I get one.
  • Two new polls for those that don't get/haven't yet got the weekly letter:

If Egg have cancelled your card: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=726057

If Egg have NOT cancelled your card: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=726897
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries
  • Is this a wind-up?

They have not completely cancelled the agreement - they are still letting you pay back over time - and you pay interest.

And presumably you are able to pay so why should you not pay?
Why would you assume it is a wind up...?? it was a purely innocent question. I never intended to be a credit expert I was just posing a question from the other side of the equation from people who have had their cards cancelled because they spend too little..... (I've spent too much)

    Anyway back to my query.....

They have cancelled my card therefore they have cancelled their agreement in supplying me a credit card facility it is now just an expensive loan. They'd have a hard time if they wanted to collect it all in one go so we are now in a finacial limbo.... not quite a loan and no longer a credit facility........
They would also have an obligation to allow time to pay if they stopped my account....... and to be honest I'm not that bothered about the credit reference agencies.

You still have your card, you can still use it for purchases (to the limit of your credit and the duration of the notice.

They have not cancelled the agreement other than in accordance with the T&C - so there is no reason for you to break your side of the agreement.

They are allowing time for repayment - they are not seeking to collect the outstanding sum at once - that is why the agreement is continuing as far as your payments are concerned. That is why you should still be meeting your obligations and paying them.
  • Seems the BBC are taking this seriously - one to keep an eye out for tomorrow...

PUBLICATION: BBC One, Breakfast JOURNALIST: Linda McCann (staff)

QUERY: Has your bank or credit card company reduced your credit card limit recently even though you are a good payer and pay your bill off in full every month? If so, we'd like to speak to you for a pre-recorded TV interview on Thursday.
  • Seems like I still can't access my account on Egg. Anyone else having more luck?

I haven't been able to log in since yesterday afternoon. I called them last night and they soon accessed the details of my account but weren't much apologetic that their website has been down. Promised all OK by this morning, which of course, it's not!

  • I just called customer services. They said they expected the site to be back up in "a couple of hours." I asked them what if I needed to make an urgent payment, to which the response was a polite "nothing they can do." For some reason I feel cynical(!) I don't have credit cards with them, only savings, but if this is the way they treat their customers my savings will be moved as soon as I can find a better and safer home for my hard earned cash.
  • I too only have savings with Egg.When I phoned them at 7am they said the site would be back again by 9.30am. I am unhappy that for the best part of 24 hours I have been unable to access my savings. No reason has been given and to my mind illustrates the contempt with which Citigroup holds its customers
