Interestingly I read/saw somewhere that latest studies show a diet high in calcium rich foods ie dairy mean you excrete higher levels of fat in many cases double the amount. Obviously if you excrete it you aren't absorbing it (think thats how things like "alli" work). So low fat dairy is recommended for dieters.

There was a documentary about such things a year or two ago where faecal matter from people on a higher consumption of lowfat/fat free dairy - cottage cheese, yoghurt etc. It did indeed show an increase in the percentage of excreted fat.
There was also something more recently where a similar thing was done with the guy from Blur.Put the kettle on.0 -

Think it was the guy from blur thingy I saw, was it the same program that did the thing about soup filling you up for longer?

The programme with the Blur fella was repeated many months apart. I watched the second time thinking it was something new, having "short-term memory syndrome"
But the penny soon dropped.
Nodette - you may have inspired me - not promising anything, but price was a big issue with me, especially as I only eat "healthy" yogurt as a chore and rarely get thru a whole tub of EasiYo, therefore:
(1) Waste!
(2) Sour-smelling tubs to wash and wash and bleach, trying to get them fresh again.

PS - ADVICE PLEASE:
I have loads of unsweetened lemon sachets *eww* If I use the one-tbs method, could I put in honey at the outset or should I leave it until the yog is ready to eat?

i had one of the easy-yo kits for christmas. when the sachet that came with it was gone i asked on here where to get them and lots of people told me that i could make it without the sachets but using the gizmo that came with the kit. amazing results and wont ever buy natural yoghurt again. so chuffed with the results, i keep thrusting it at people to try!!!! with fresh fruit its so tasty. and my calcium intake has gone up considerably!!0

What gizmo was that then Sandra? I have the set up but yet have never made yoghurt from scratch in it.Donna

To be honest, I haven't tried the flavoured sachets. However, personally I would leave out the honey until you're ready to eat the yoghurt.0 -
I made yogurt overnight using my Easiyo and the UHT milk/starter and this morning came down to lovely, thick yogurt. I added some vanilla extract and shook violently and now my yogurt is all runny
I think it's the shaking that did it.
A word of warning, have it stirred and not shaken

P.S. Has anyone made coconut flavoured yogurt ? I thought of adding a sachet of creamed coconut or maybe use powdered coconut milk instead of skimmed milk powder?
I found a recipe for making yogurt with actual coconut milk but I think that would be rather expensive!
Any ideas?0 -
nodette wrote earlier that she only used a spoonful of the podered sachet of th bio yog so thought i would try it on a flavourd sachet and see what happens. I used UHT mil and 2 dessertspoons of the bio lemon flavour powdered lakeland mix. I left it or about 15 hrs and had a taste. it tastes lemony but not as much as when you use a whole pack but its still nice. not quite so thick but quick enough. I guess out of one packet i will do 5-6 litres.so thank you nodette for saving me some money on the favoured ones as i usually just do plain0
