Out of interest, how much yoghurt starter/milk did you use? I used a rounded teaspoon to a pint (so approx half a litre). Were your proportions similar or can I cut down even further?

It was just over half a 125g pot of yeo valley so i will stick with half a pot to more or less a litre of milk, as much as you can get in to the container. I think mixing the powder, milk and yoghurt separately helped. I think the graininess may have been caused because the milk powder may not have dissolved properly and may have gone in to a lump when put it in with a bigger volume of milk? I dunno but I think I will stick with mixing it separately until i get a different outcome. :T

This may well have been posted somewhere on this very loooooooong thread but I thought I would post anyway.

I saw this recipe for yogurt on the net. I have some Easi yo greek yogurt in the sachet and this was to use it as a starter.

    2 TBSP Easiyo plain flavour
    1/2 cup dried milk
    1 litre SS milk (UHT)

Mixed up the powder ingredients with a little of the milk and then whisked in the rest. It used just under a litre of the milk to fill to the level in the EY container.

Then the usual -boiling water to baffle level. Approx 8 hours later,

I then strained the set yogurt for a couple of hours.

This produced the most fabulous thick yogurt, like cream.

Next time I shall use just the skimmed milk and see how it turns out.

It is a way of making the packet EY last a lot longer.

Good way of making yogurt with just store cupboard ingredients.

  • We recently stayed at my mum's holiday cottage and got "into" using the easiyo yoghurt maker we found in the cupboard. So my mum bought us one when it was DH's birthday :D We particularly like the drinking yoghurt! We haven't had to buy any sachets yet as my mum very kindly gave us a starter kit which had 12 sachets with it. But they look expensive at €1.90 per sachet which makes 1 litre so am thinking of trying the pp's suggestion of making the easiyo powder go further by supplementing with milk powder and UHT milk. With the flavoured yoghurts presumably the flavour will not be so strong and sweet but I think I'd prefer it that way. I will report back!
:D Skint but happy with my lovely family :D

  • Well I haven't made any yoghurt for a while but whilst skimming thru the tv channels this afternoon QVC were selling the easiyo so watched the programme and thought I will make some more up. So got my starter out of the freezer but this time I am going to make it with semi-skimmed as I have only used skimmed just to see if there is a big difference.

Has anyone tried making yoghurt ice-cream from easiyo made yoghurt?

Easiyo sell an ice cream product ISTR.

Haven't made yogurt in a few months, shall make some as soon as the excess of fruit we have is finished.
  • Just having a quick thought. I still get grainy yoghurt, I know we dont need to heat the milk but if we did then added the milk powder would this not help reduce the grain? I think that is what is causing this graininess.
  • Well I have solved the grainy texture problem. I simply dont add the milk powder! My recipe is:

Fill flask 1/2 with UHT, add 3 good tablespoons of Yeo Valley organic pro-biotic yoghurt (the rest is frozen in ice cube trays) a teaspoon of sugar (read that tip on chowhound, it feeds the bacteria) then a good tablespoon of sweetener (optional, I prefer something sweeter). Give this mix a really good shake then top up with more milk, shake once more then 'cook' as usual.

This gave me a yoghurt in texture and taste similar to the one in a Muller fruit corner but with a slight tartness, lovely.

Yes its not as thick but I strain my yoghurt anyway but much prefer it without the grainy lumps.

    FREE DELIVERY!

Hope this is of use to someone - I usually buy a self-mixed 10 pack from Wahlshop as they tend to be cheapest (£19.50) but delivery always adds £4 to that, but they generally work out to be the cheapest anyway.

But GOOD NEWS they are offering FREE DELIVERY :j on all orders through November and December. They also have offers on the starter packs too but I don't know if they are cheaper than Lakeland et al.

    Wahlshop
