Just to add my two penn'orth - I never add dried milk because I think it then tastes like dried milk - but I do use full fat UHT.

I put two "good" tablespoons of Total Greek yoghurt (the ordinary one), fill with full fat UHT, put it in the thingy, fill up with boiling water AND GO TO BED.

The longer you leave it, the thicker it gets.

I also find that the fresher the yoghurt starter, the thicker it is.

Don't worry about all the full fat -Total yoghurt is 10% and the milk is 7% so I doubt the whole thing would be more than 8% fat in total - and it's yum...

I quite often let it 'brew' overnight and then replace the water with fresh, boiling water and leave it for the rest of the day and that gives me a much thicker yogurt. :)
Don't judge people on they way they look, the way they speak or what they're called because they can't help that.

Only judge people on what they say and what they do.

Thanks for all your helpful replies - I did use full fat UHT milk, but not milk powder as I've read that it affects the taste.
I'm going to have another go at putting it back on for another 7 hours!
    We'll see what happens!

Really interesting to see how everyone uses theirs. I always leave it to brew overnight, but have had no luck with semi-skimmed milk - shall give it another go

Well the yogurt got another 7 hours plus overnight in the Easiyo and is just as runny as when i put it in - so we poured it over some fruit for breakfast and have 6 more jars in the fridge to get through!

My UHT milk was full fat and was at room temperature and my starter yogurt was straight out of the fridge - a Yeo Valley one (yes, expensive but the only plain yogurt to be found in Tesco at the time!) so I don't know what's gone wrong - try again next week I suppose!

Try bringing your starter yogurt up to room temp first next time. I always have evrything at room temp before |I start, It might help a little bit!

Having had runny yoghurt out of mine a couple of times, I now:
    • start it in the afternoon and leave it overnight before putting it in the fridge the next morning
    • make sure there is no lurking cold water in the EasiYo maker. There is a red plastic dooberry that the pot sits on, and this sometimes stops all of the cold water from draining out after the previous making. I think that this has cooled down the boiling water I've put in for the new brew, causing it not to thicken properly.
Hope that helps. Any good recipes to report? :D

Can anyone help me, can I make yoghurt at home with a non-dairy alternative to milk. I would like to try rice or oat milk but not sure if it will work, I have the easy-yo system which I have used successfully with UHT milk, but I do struggle with dairy so I don't make it very often. Any suggestions will be greatly received

I regularly make yoghurt with soya milk and it turns out fine, it even has it's own vanilla flavour. I have the Lakeland electric yoghurt maker and I just use a dollop of live yoghurt to a one litre carton of UHT soya milk. Sometimes I add a spoonful of dried milk powder to thicken it slightly, but this isn't necessary.
