Well my latest batch of HM yog turned out just the way I like it - consistency is like whipped cream and despite being left for 12 hours, it wasn't too tangy.

Just made my first batch of HM yog ever in the slow cooker with a towel wrapped round it. Am amazed - it was so easy and is delicious. Would only put 2 spoons of dried milk in next time, as it is a bit gloopy with 3 -but will definitely do it again! :j

had it with bananas oats and honey for breakfast and some will go into the veggie curry for tonight - now need more yogurt recipes!

  • Hi all,

I know there are a few posts about the Easiyo yoghurt-maker but I couldn't find a definitive answer to my questions and am hoping someone will be able to help. :) I've just bought the Easiyo and don't want to have to buy sachets all the time as too expensive, I think.

How do I make yoghurt using the Easiyo but without using sachets? I want to make live/probiotic yoghurt with as many good bacteria as possible (and would also like to make Greek). Is anyone else using the Easiyo but not using sachets? Does this work out cheaper for you? It is just as easy?

    Many thanks,

It's really easy :D I have an Easiyo that I got from Freecycle so never had any sachets. I use a tub of natural yogurt (full fat or skimmed work fine for me) and top up using full fat UHT milk. That goes into the Easiyo overnight - easy as that :T

I save a tub of that in the freezer for a later batch.

To get Greek-type I strain the yoghurt through a muslin, and so as to not waste the liquid, freeze that to use in cheese sauce.

I threw a tin of apricots (including the juice) into the blender with it - now have a yummy yoghurt drink which will keep me in breakfasts, and the children in snacks for days! 1 litre of yoghurt turned into a litre and a half. :j
  • Thanks, Sherlock and Pink! That's great. Yoghurt-making, here I come!

I know there are several threads on using the easiyo yogurt maker - I've read them - but I'm trying to use my Easiyo with just UHT milk and a live yogurt starter. I mixed two heaped desertspoons of my starter yogurt with about 900mls of UHT milk. But the result is rather runny - more like a drinking yogurt than an eating one! Tastes great though!
    Where did I go wrong?
Any help would be appreciated - I don't want to buy the easiyo sachets - too expensive - so I've got to master this one way or another!
    Thanks

    Hi,
I've just made some and it is solid. It's better to use full-cream UHT milk - I tried with semi-skimmed and it was runny. Also add 3 tablespoons of dried milk to help enrich it

I make mine with skimmed milk and it's practically solid. There are 2 tricks to getting this result though.....

    1. add 2-4 tablespoons of dried milk powder and stir in weel.
    2. keep it as warm as possible for as long as possible.

For No. 2, I add more water than the instructions say, as much as I can fit in. I then wrap the whole flask in a thick towel and stand it somewhere warm. I put it my a radiator over the winter but now the heating is off I stand it on a South facing window sill. I also leave it for a minimum of 7 hours.
