    Hi all,

A quick question. How do I make say strawberry yoghurt? Do I shake in the strawberry first with my yog mix or do I add it after?

    Many thanks

Yoghurt first. I often add frozen crushed berries to yoghurt.

I just bought an Easiyo starter kit at a boot sale for £3 which I thought was a bit of a bargain. It came with an unsweetened natural yog mix, a sachet of strawberry squirt and a recipe book so I'm very pleased with it.

Anyway I started off my mix (can't wait to taste it!) and then started hunting for the cheapest place to buy the sachets. I have to say I'm shocked at the price of them, but from reading this thread I gather I can use UHT, milk powder and a couple of spoons of starter in the same way, so that's not too bad.

I've had an electric maker for years and have always done it this way, but found that it became quite nasty if I forgot to switch it off, as it was actually quite hot. As I have the memory of a gnat this seems like a good idea, as the leaflet says it won't spoil if left a bit too long. Plus it's less electicity.

I will report back on my results. If anybody has any tips or suggestions I would really appreciate them.

Wow, Jenny, what a bargain you got! I used to go to a local car boot sale every Sunday but the damn fascist capitalists :p developed the site, there's nowhere nearby now :( Which could be a blessing in disguise because I used to traipse home loaded with junk :o

I have made a pot of the cut-price low-fat, unsweetened lemon from Lawson's. I put 4 good teaspoons of Splenda in it. My god it's sour :D

The sell-by is September, pretty good.

    Hi can anyone help?

i am new to easiyo - if I was to start doing my own not just using the sachets when you say use some starter + uht + milk powder do you mean some of the dried easiyo powder from the sachets or actual yoghurt that I have already made?
Also If I was to say use 1/2 an easiyo sachet but fill the container up with the normal amount of water would this not set or just make the yoghurt too runny.
I love the easiyo blackcurrant but am trying to find a way to make it cheaper and lower calorie.
    thanks for any help

I use a shop bought live yoghurt as a starter, but it must have a good long use-by date so root around at the back of the shelf. Mix a couple of tablespoons of this with the same of milk powder (Marvel, Five Pints etc) and a litre carton of UHT milk.

When I make it in my electric maker I just put it in cold and it is heated by the machine, but I understand that you would need to heat it a bit before you put it in the Easiyo. I'm sure someone more familiar with the Easiyo will be along in a minute and give you more confident advice than I can!

Not sure the electricity consumption issue is quite that simple - someone on this thread found (using a plug-in monitor) that boiling a kettle used 200 times as much power as running their yogurt maker (see posts 30 and 45).

If you tend to forget to turn off an electric yogurt maker, you could put it on a plug-timer.

I bought the electric yogurt maker from Lakeland a few weeks ago and am delighted with it. It seemed to me to be cheaper in the long run, with no sachets to buy, and less faff, with no need to heat anything before putting it in. I reckon we broke even on the price of it in less than a month.

That's a brilliant idea, don't know why it never occurred to me - we've even got one already (somewhere!).

Maybe I'll give the electric one another go if I can find the time plug. See how the finished yoghurt compares to the Easiyo stuff.

    I'm SOOOO disappointed!

I made my first Easiyo in the new thing about lunchtime yesterday, left it overnight to be on the safe side, and when I opened it this morning all I've got is a sort of sour tasting thick milk. What have I done wrong? Or is the Easiyo not all it's cracked up to be?

I've refilled it with boiling water and I'll see how it is late tonight.

But I have the feeling I'll be looking out that plug timer and going back to my old electric one.
