Thanks Pink,
I did have a look on the forum yesterday but couldn't find anything. Now I can read all the tips while I'm waiting for my parcel to arrive from Lakeland.:T0 -
I've just found another sachet of that Raspberry yoghurt in my cupboard which didn't set. Previously it was so liquid that it wasn't even really drinkable and I ended up throwing it away. However, today I'm using half of the batch which didn't set yesterday to whip into a raspberry jelly, just using enough boiling water to melt the cubes and making it up to a pint with liquid yoghurt.
I've also got some gelatine leaves in my cupboard and will use two dissolved gelatine leaves to whip into the remainder of the litre of liquid yoghurt to make up a raspberry mouse. If it works, I'll report back in case anybody else has non-setting problems and doesn't want to waste what they've made.0 -
I ordered an EasiYo which came yesterday so I had my first attempt at making yogurt this morning. I used 2 tbsp dried milk powder, 2 tbsp of Rachel's Dairy live yogurt, 1 litre of UHT semi skimmed but it came out really quite runny (I think you maybe could have drunk it!) I left it for 7 hours. It did taste lovely and we troughed our way through 500ml
but I'm wondering what I did wrong.

That can happen if the right temperature isn't maintained - especially at this time of year when room temperature tends to be cooler overnight.
Try warming the UHT to blood heat. Also when you put the hot water in the easiyo flask, fill to about 1cm above the red baffle, so that when you put the container in the hot water rises right up the sides. Then wrap the easiyo flask in a towel to conserve the heat and keep it in the warmest room while it 'grows'
Also 7 hours may be a bit short. I usually leave it for at least 8 hours but often as long as 18 hours. It depends how tart you like youir yogurt - the longer it is left, the tarter it becomes

Many thanks for that - I'll give it a go tomorrow as I think we'll have finished off the whole litre by then
. I'll pop 2 tbsp of this yogurt in tomorrow's batch, wrap it all up and and keep my fingers crossed!

If this yog hasn't cultured properly, you might be better off starting over again with some shop bought yog.
Oh! That's another possible factor - you need the shop bought starter to be as fresh as possible so you want the longest date, as it gets older the culture becomes less potentI'm a retired employment solicitor. The other one had a long date on it so don't think it was that, but I'll buy a new one and use that (scoffed the original one - was only a small pot
). I'll keep you posted how it goes.
Many thanks again!Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
I have just splurged and bought the Easi-yo plus the custard sachets. Im on new medication and they are playing havoc with my tummy and can cause ulcers so Im guzzling live yogurt like crazy. I have my first batch of yogurt on the go now and it will be trady in the morning. I really want to peak inside but have put a sticker on it as my kids are very curious!I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
I got an EasiYo in the Lakeland sale after Christmas. Rather foolishly I bought the greek style. I say foolishly because it's so darned good and so blooming calorific. I'm five days into trying to lose weight so have changed over to the 'Skimmers' one. THis is 'OK' and reduces my breakfast cals by quite a lot, but not as nice as the greek. I can honestly say that the greek is by far the nicest yoghurt I've ever had, so thick and so mild.
At the moment I'm trying (and failing!) to find out how many cals/100g the low fat greek has. If anyone has that I would like to know. I might have to upgrade one level!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

I had an easi-yo for xmas. Didn't get any sachets so did it the UHT skimmed milk way and loved it!! Last week I passed a julian graves shop so thought I'd try a couple of sachets. It was ok but I MUCH prefer the proper HM stuff! And its a million times cheaper!0
