Thanks - oddly enough, Hubby left his pot (as couldn't face finishing it!) and when it had been left at room temp it thinned out and was like normal yoghurt!

    Very odd!

Then I'd suggest that if you make it again don't let it set so long.
  • I bought an EasyYo from Lakeland at the weekend and made my first batch of Greek yogurt last night which is pretty tasty. Not sure that I'll be paying £10 for 5 sachets of powder again though. Anyone got any idea if I can make yogurt with Soya milk, as that's what we tend to take normally

Sorry I don't know about the soya milk but am just letting you know that you can buy Easiyo sachets at a cheaper price. I use https://www.yoghurtdirect.co.uk
as they deliver within a few days. A box of 10 does sound a lot but remember it stores well and currently it is £19.99 for the Greek style. They also do variety packs.

Any yoghourt can be thickened by straining it for several hours in a muslin lined sieve to give it that GreekStyle consistency and flavour.

I posted this above but if you want to mix & match 10 packs then I think Wahl are cheapest.
  • Not sure where my brain is this afternoon as obviously £20 for 10 is the same as £10 for 5 :o Although I do bulk buy to get the discounts.

I had not heard of Wahl so will check that out thank you.....hadn't read back as I was just "popping in".

As far as gloopy yogurt goes it certainly happens with Vanilla,Toffee,Banana and probably several others. Of the flavours the berry fruits are all OK as of course is the greek.

We have a great system with the Greek. We make one sachet of Easiyo Greek and eat it until there is the equivalent of about two tablespoons left. We then pour in some whole milk straight from the fridge and mix it in thoroughly. We then top up the container and thoughly shake it up and put it straight into the Easiyo with about 1cm of extra boiling water and incubate as usual.

After 6 hours we pour it, still warm into a large plastic strainer lined, with one sheet of kitchen paper, over a jug to strain and place it in the fridge overnight. In the morning tip it upside down into a bowl and peel off the kitchen paper. The yogurt is the same texture as Total but with more flavour and certainly better than the Easiyo Greek. When that is nearly finished we start again with another Easiyo.

There's no sterilising involved and no more than five minutes work.

Interesting, a couple of questions if you don't mind? Is that 1cm of extra boiling water above the usual level? Straining - I wondered if it would be possible to put muslin over the end of the jar and invert it, ever tried?

If I could find an easy way to strain I'd definitely stick with Easiyo rather than shop bought which always seems to go off well before the Easiyo ones.

For straining I have a large square of muslin, lay over a bowl, pour in yogurt, tie up muslin as you would a bin liner. I then hang it on a hook which I screwed in under my kitchen cupboard. Whey then drips into the bowl and the thickened yogurt is in muslin.

Hey pretso. Cloth gets rinsed out till next time.

  • Sounds like my idea of sticking over the end of the jar isn't going to work - oh well new plan! Now where can you buy muslin on the High St?

Not sure Sui. I had a pair of Ikea muslin curtains which I cut up. I think you may find j cloths do the same thing? I have not tried that myself.
