Hi, I am a regular contributor to MSE, but new to OS.

I have recently started to make my own yogurt, and have been using a 0.5 lite wide mouthed food flask, which is great but not big enough.

So I am looking for a 1 litre food flask, but most of them seem to be stainless steel, which is no good because it makes the yogurt go runny (I strain it to make a greek style yogurt).

Does anyone know of a plastic or glass one?

    Many thanks for your help

    Daisy

I don't know about a food flask but Lakeland have the Easiyo yoghurt maker on half price at £6.84. You don't have to use the Easiyo sachets, I've just been making "normal" yoghurt in it. A couple of tablespoons of starter with 1 litre of room temperature uht milk mixed in the jar, fill the easiyo with boiling water, pop the jar in, leave overnight and you've got perfect yoghurt in the morning.

  • most supermarkets- and Boots- will have big Thermos flasks, I use a 1.5 ltr monster that I no longer use for drinks now the kids have all left, blue plastic outside, glass inside, use it weekly, works a treat. Actually, I bet they will have all been taken off the shelves to make room for Xmas rubbish. grrrrr too soon, too soon

I have one of those, but because I like to make thick yogurt it isn't as easy to get the yogurt out and clean it afterwards as the wide mouthed food flasks. So Ideally I'd like a 1 litre (or larger) food flask, rather than the traditional liquid flasks.

I have an EasiYo kit and certainly don't rely on buying the mixes all the time which I do find expensive, although convenient. To regenerate I just reserve a couple of tablespoons of the yoghurt and mix it with room temperature UHT milk. It's important to use UHT and not ordinary milk otherwise it won't set. I only regenerate twice and then use another packet for the next mix. This reduces the cost considerably. Years ago I used to make yoghurt in a wide necked flask but it developed an infection because I wasn't able to clean/sterlise the inside at a hot enough temperature and after that was unsuccessful at getting good yoghurt from this method. If you eat a lot of yoghurt, I think the EasyYo kit will be more convenient for you in the long run.

Thanks for your comments Primrose. One of the things I don't like about making yog in a normal 1 litre flask is the difficulty in cleaning it properly, especially as I like to make thick yog. So I am looking forward to making yog in a removable plastic container that can easily be washed.

A couple of other questions - is the plastic inner container dishwasher proof?

Also, I see that Lakeland sell spare extra containers separately - do these have lids, and are they worth buying? I make yog everyday, so I guess it would mean that I can keep the yog in the container and alternate the containers?

    Thanks for all the advice!
