I emailed Virgin Mobile for an unlcok code. Theri response was as follows :

    >To have your phone unlocked, simply drop in to the shop you bought it from
    > and ask for your unlock code. They'll be able to search their systems,
    > retrieve the code and unlock your phone for you.

Can they do this in the shops ? They also said they only unlock phones that are bought online or from a Virgin megastore but the Zavvi stores have VM concessions and I guess they are proper Virgin outlets.

Got my Nokia 1112 from the York Zavvi store this afternoon - they had 2 left and I got 1 so if you're looking for one, you might still be lucky if they have it.

well i went in this morning and told the lass that i'd like the 1112.again i was quoted £5 ( cos i had to buy the sim as well) and that she'd heard that people were selling them on for ridiculous prices so i reeled off a list of places that were selling it for £2.50 and asked her to look at the company's internal promotions system.after a couple of mins she came back and told me that on this occasion they would allow it.so gave her two fone numbers and came away with 2 fones-i was a v happy bunny

To the best of my knowledge, ONLY the call center can unlock handsets. And you have to have spent £35 on your virgin mobile account to be granted access to it. But no, I've NEVER heard of any virgin retail store providing unlock codes, we simply never had any access to such systems (and if we did, they sure as hell never told us!).

:T Glad the tactic worked out well for you. Hopefully it'll yield the same results for others! :)

Went to zavvi today and the guy insisted there is no such offer and they have never sold it for £2.50 despite the fact I know someone got one from there yesterday!

do you know what you did to switch it off? just in case you don't & you end up in predictive mode again, there are two ways to do it

    while on the texting screen

    1) press the # key twice to toggle between predictive & standard texting
    2) select Options/Dictionary/Dictionary Off

    HTH :)

i don't remember switching it off! well i can tell you that i haven't gone into any settings to do it anyway.played with the tone settings and set the clock etc.i do know about the # key thanks.the thing was the first time i went to txt it had PT on which has never happened with my other nokias.i shall have a play with dictionary on/off later-never had that either and didn't know the fone had the option.

    cheers
