I agree to disagree.
Silvercar your comments are spot on.
However I cannot accept that I have been rude or patronising,as I said I took my response tone from MUMSTHEWORD when she began her missive with"frankly etc, etc.
If you cannot take it dont give it out.
To point out that hearsay is not the same as personal experience is not patronising, just truthful.......which is why hearsay is not accepted in court. Bestpud had outlined her experiences were not personal and I responded to that.
Good schools do contribute to house price inflation not Faith schools exclusively.
Yes I do think it fair that faith schools select,as long as that selection is in accordance with the law and takes account of other criteria as demanded.
Which they do.
I have no intention of trawling through the Govt stats to illustrate my point,as whatever was produced would be manipulated to suit your agenda, namely the green eyed monster Silvercar referred to.0 -
Have to admit to being confused on this one. From my understanding the initial poster has not yet had a decision from the school of choice and could end up with a place there.
The inital poster also said the eldest child had moved schools twice in the past year. Once I can understand but twice? (edited:sorry you found this comment offensive. Moving once is disruptive enough for any child, moving twice is even more so, you were lucky to find places mid-year at 2 other schools).
Equally the medical sympathy card would not bode well as a reason for application to the school. If you drive then you have been seizure free in excess of 2 years.Send your child to the school because it offers the best education, because its within walking distance or just because it has a nice feel. Not because you the parent might have a seizure after 2 years, its as likely as any of the other 450 parents breaking a leg and not being able to walk / drive their children to school. The duty of the school is the best interests of the child, not the parent.
From the other side of the argument my faith schools "parish" boundaries mean that children who can see the school from their house are outside the catchment area whilst others from 30 miles away fall within it. The ultimate decision is at the discretion of the school governors, a very difficult task which is never easy to make. Whilst we have 7 criteria on which the decision is made we do give priority to those children who are in a position to walk to school and those who have siblings with whom they live attending the school. Common sense generally prevails, however the choice of school is sometimes not made for parental convenience but for those of the grandparent or child minder who escorts the child to school.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -

- it is not being used as a "sympathy card", purely explaining my reasons for worrying etc and covering all aspects of my situation.the medical sympathy card would not bode well
I really don't understand why you can't "understand twice?" Have you not heard of people moving/personal problems etc? I really don't see why this has been questioned - if I had wanted to explain the reasons I would have - but I find your response rather rude and unnecessary. I have already stated that I have had the responses I was expecting and can not understand why you have posted these comments?!The inital poster also said the eldest child had moved schools twice in the past year. Once I can understand but twice?
All I basically wanted to do was to enquire whether anyone had any advise/ideas that I could look into etc. With your comments and the thread being turned into a discussion about faith schools I really wish I hadn't bothered!!!!Wins:-

Sorry OP, I am to blame for that. I could have moved it to a new thread once it got going, but as I think I said earlier, I acknowledged that you thought you'd had the responses you expected, so just left it.
No offence intended, and best wishes with your application for your second child to follow the older one to the nearest school:)*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

There really is no point in continuing the debate. You do not speak from PERSONAL experience but from hearsay. In reality by the time the 3rd cat has been reached,no places are available. So your point about out of catchment kids is not particularly relevant. I also reiterate that we do not ask for proof of practice of the faith, other areas may be different.
Excuse me!! I am speaking from fact - not heresay! How dare you call me a liar.
I have to put my daughter to bed in a moment but will find you evidence afterwards that IN MY AREA there are many faith pupils bussed across the county every single day!
That is a FACT!!!
In will also post EVIDENCE of the admissions procedure stating you need proof of regular attendance.
If you like, you could do the same?
Plus this is for both faith schools in my area - not just ONE!!!
In my son's class there are Muslim kids, jewish kids,C of E,and children of no faith,in addition to RC children. Believe me taxpayers money is being well spent, our school is consistently in the top 10 in the UK,and is not in a particularly middle class area. I am sure that is of no comfort to you,but it is to the many parents of all denominations that have kids there.
So faith schools are now responsible for house price inflation too:rotfl:you do have a bee in your bonnet don't you?
Are you saying this is not the case? Surely not?
Are you going to continue getting personal? There really is no need if you are sure of your facts and confident enough to argue your case.

You are welcome:D I did think it was obvious though from my responses that I was in favour of the procedures, and I would hardly be a Governor at a school which operated policies I did not support.
I also apologise to the OP for hi jacking her thread, and wish her well with her quest to get the place she wants for her child.0 -
I agree to disagree.

No need to view things like that is there?
Since when did a debate become a personal battle of wills?
To point out that hearsay is not the same as personal experience is not patronising, just truthful.......which is why hearsay is not accepted in court. Bestpud had outlined her experiences were not personal and I responded to that.
I have not attended a faith school and neither have my children but that does not mean my points are heresay. My friends children took a faith place and she lives out of the catchment. My sil appealed when my niece was turned down (on the grounds she had made friends etc as she attended a feeder primary school) but she got nowhere as she is not a regular church goer.
Plus, I have obviously looked very carefully at the admissions procedure, having three children of my own and being out of the catchment if either faith school.
The house prices are vastly inflated in the areas - houses are advertised as being in the catchments!!! I cannot believe this is the only area where that happens.
Therefore, my lack of personal experience means my children have not attended a faith school and does CERTAINLY DOES NOT MEAN MY FACTS ARE INCORRECT.
Like I said, evidence will follow shortly!

Yes, ask the school what they will do about the potential 9 children who are in catchment but stand not to get in. Is it just that they won't get in- end of story or that because they are in catchment they will, which may mean a port-a-cabin or a mixed year class in which case do you stand a chance of getting your youngest in.All I basically wanted to do was to enquire whether anyone had any advise/ideas that I could look into etc.
Best wishes- let us know what happens.

Not heresay - just the facts.
