Possible primary school appeal

Nope, you've assumed again. I noticed you on two other discussions after this one started.Ability is perceived until tested and proven by examination and by reference to peer groups.
Such tests are carried out in yr2 and yr 6 across the country.
Faith is something which a child is born into, but then takes on for themselves in ceremonies at about the age of 7. Therefore by the age of 10 a child has made their own representations of that faith. If you are not religious that will mean nothing to you but I found it extreemly insulting that you should denigrate a child's choice with regard to faith, yet tell us how your own child at a much younger age had made a considered decision.
He wasn't 'much younger', he was 11
What more is there to say on this issue? it was democratically decided either by majority or by default9people choosing not to respond)
I am merely questioning the data. I have no idea if it is representative of the country, or even county, but I am entitled to question it. We dont know who was invited to respond to the survey.
the headteacher. you were prepared to take on trust her figures of the make up of her faith school.
Yes, I am. She is the head and has not yet given me any reason to doubt her word. On the other hand, you posted this "Faith schools are not paid for by your taxes they are Voluntary Aided schools which means they are paid for largely from the church funds", which was wrong. So I don't think it's unreasonable to ask you for evidence for other info you supply. As a governor I would generally have accepted your word too, but you gave me reason to doubt you.
You have made no comment about your usage of "Bee in the bonnet" and Bestpuds reaction it.
You have already said you do not like me picking thru every part of your posts. I am attempting to stick to parts where I can give you a reasonable reply rather than inflame matters.
You appear to be searching out other threads I have posted on ,I hope you enjoy them.*** Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly ***

Ability is tested but are the results obtained at those ages reliable enough to predict future academic achievement?
Assuming then, the children involved were the same age,why is your child's decision more acceptable than mine? or any other child,is it because of that perceived ability?or were you not speaking personally? if it was based on your opinion of your own child that is a bit elitist don't you think?and not a little bit presumptuous as you know nothing about my child or other children who attend faith schools nor their abilities.
I would assume the survey was done in the proper manner and in accordance with regulations, would you not?
I accept that my use of "largely" was overstating the case, although as I have outlined the figures on the actual split of that are not readily available from the DFE,and would not take into account the direct church contributions we receive from the parish.
With regard to the infamous comment re BEES...!!! I have already said you didn't offend me,so how would commenting on that point inflame matters? unless you think Bestpud was not warranted in taking that comment personally but do not wish to say so ?
Similarly you have no responses as to why you consider bold to be offensive,or your reaction to the fact that I found your dismissal of the faith of children at faith schools offensive.
The debate is well and tuly off topic now, but nothing you have said can get around the fact that you may not like faith schools but they are lawful,or they would not be in existance. .
BTW Did you not have a thread on your son's private education? it seems to have disappeared has it been edited by the mods or?0 -
Poet123 - may I point out that I was not offended in the slightest by the bee comment. I asked you why you felt the need to make personal comments at all and you replied by asking which comment I 'took exception to'. I replied by pointing out that was the comment I found personal (I made a point of saying I meant it was 'personal' as I did not want to just respond without making that distinction)! Perhaps I should have spelled it out further and actually stated, at the time, that I was not offended. Anyway, I have done it now :
I am not offended by that comment, I just see it as a personal comment and I don't think there is any need for either of us to make personal comments about each other.
I hope that is clear now and the bees can rest a while!
Re faith education - my point is that a faith education is not open to all. It could not be in reality as there are only so many of them, but in that case, allocation should follow that which other state schools abide by.
It has been made clear in here that religion actually plays a small role in these schools and if that is so then there it is more about the general ethos. Therefore, why are church attenders given priority (in many areas)? Why does going to church deem them more worthy of that style of education when there are many children who could benefit from it. As I have said, in some cases, it is perhaps the non church goers who would benefit most?
The reason is clearly the short sighted decision made when they originally negotiated the places - the govt at the time clearly placed themselves and future govts over a barrel. Times change though and length of time in place does not automatically make things right.
As for the protests at removing the transport - these families are accessing the best schools in the county and having their children transported there for free too ie they are getting a very good deal! Of course they will protest if they feel they are going to lose that privilege. Many would have to travel miles across the county to take their children to school themselves.0 -
If there is anything we can usefully add to the OP's original question, ie what grounds might help an appeal for her daughter to get a place in her nearest primary school, great.
But if we can't stay on topic, can we let it rest please?
Thank you.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I think the original question has been answered hasn't it?
I agree though, it is unfortunate we have hijacked this thread to such a degree.
I was wondering why it has not been moved but then thought the original question may be the reason.
I'm guessing it is not possible just to shift the faith school bits over to the discussion forum?0 -
My point re the bee comment was that it was only singled out as personal when I used it!!
Nowhere have I stated that religion playsa small role in faith education, just that that admission criteria does not require only that. Religion is still taught in the schools, all religions are covered by the curriculum not just the faith of the school in question. .
I agree this thread was hi jacked(and not by me)so if the mods do not wish to remove it to another more suitable forum then I will abide by their decision and lay it to rest. All the issues seem to have been fully explored anyway, nothing useful will come from further debate.0 -
Not easily, I don't think, plus that discussion has been done once or twice already ...I'm guessing it is not possible just to shift the faith school bits over to the discussion forum?
As for why it hasn't been moved or closed already, I've held off while I ease my way into being a board guide.
So, let's leave it there, shall we?Signature removed for peace of mind0
