Decided to change from My LloydsTSB Platinum card to the
    Advance Card.
Paid off the £32 Platinum card I owed...Cancelled it. Applied on line for the Advance card, got an OK within 2 mins. 2 days later
Got a thing to sign thru the post and 5 days later card arrived. with 12 months 0% transfer and a £5000 credit. Just waiting for my PIN to arrive.
    Quite painless.

  • Hi I'm writing for advice. I've just got the new Texaco card and want to utilise the 5000 limit by writing a cheque from my Ryanair credit card for that amount into my current account then transferring the balance to texaco thus getting 3.9% for the whole of the time of the loan. Ryanair says it'll will cost me 2% of the value of the cheque to do this. Is there a more effective way to borrow the money. Should I look at The new Sainsbury card?
    Thanks Paul
  • I've taken out 2 cards this year to transfer balances. I've never been turned down by credit card company, Yet just recently I applied for Virgin 0% for 9 months but was turned down. Don't know if it is because I opened 2 earlier this year just to transfer balances. I never use them to purchase.
  • Paul

The Sainsbury card is really for purchases. You need a card like Egg which allows balance transfers into your bank account. You could then transfer the balance from Egg to Texaco for the 3.9% offer. Once you've done that you could SBT on Egg again, stick the money in a savings account until the end of the Egg 0% period (currently 1 May 05) and use the interest earned to pay off a bit more of the Texaco balance. :D

Whatever you do you'll have to move fast 'cos the BT to Texaco has to be done within the first 6 weeks of account opening doesn't it? Another good reason to try Egg 'cos you should get an instant decision. :)
  • My BT's working well and making money ! However I've noticed that the credit limit I'm being issued with from new cards is getting lower. So I applied for cards in my wife's name - brilliant these are coming in at 10K and 15K.
Can anyone comment now on the application procedure; is it really necessary to list all the cards I have when making new applications because my experience is; the more debt you declare the lower credit limit they issue you with ! ?
  • I have just received an offer from M & S &more card of 3.9% for life of balance transfer. However as I am often tempted to use the card whilst in the shop I am trying to resist using this, as I am aware that once transferring a balance one should never use the card for purchases.
I therefore have just tried to find the 3.9% you say is offered by Texaco and could only find an offer of 9.8% with a £10 annual fee! .Don't they like me or am I doing something wrong? :(

    Try here :)
  • :)Thanks Unbelievable,
Have just applied for a Texaco card - was confused by the 9.8% annual interest rate, which is apparently 3.9% APR? Will only use this for balance transfer.

Only snag is £10 annual fee. Oh well! Means I can still shop in M & S as long as I pay it off at the end of each month.
