AOL BROADBAND for £9.99

  • I took the £9.99 offer last year. I was given up to 8 meg unlimited, wireless router and evening and weekend calls for a 12 month. I live quite close to my local exchange so I was getting 5.6 meg. In a few weeks time I'll be calling them up to see if I can get anything else from them. Any ideas on what I can squeeze out of them?

Well after only just extending my contract (after paying £17.99 a month for silver for as long as I can remember) to £9.99 a month for silver, I spoke to AOL with a view to going on Gold. Shock horror!!!! BT is only giving us 1 meg on our telephone line.

Now I am totally confused so please can anyone tell me. Who is lying here? because BT is telling us that it is up to AOL to ask for an increase in speed, and AOL are insisting that it is up to BT.

We asked AOL whether changing our telephone provider would help the situation (as our system can be very slow at times), but they said that only BT supports AOL.

I find the whole topic of computers and internet a minefield and I would really appreciate any advice/answers here.

    Thanks in anticipation.

1mb is possibly the max you can receive on your line due to distance from the exchange

If you go HERE pop in your phone and postcode and click continue, the next page will tell you what speed you can expect on your phone line
  • 1 MB is as much as mine will go to, on account of being in a village as far from the exchange as you can get and when AOL checked the line they said it was dial up speed really, but it does seem to be just over 1 MB these last few weeks so perhaps they juiced it up a wee bit.
I think I am going slightly mad.....
  • Tell me about it. I've been paying £9.99 for my 8 meg unlimited since March 2007. I phoned them up back then and told them I was switching to Sky. They couldn't do enough for me. They gave me a Netgear wireless router and free evening and weekend calls too. Like I said, my contract is due up again in a few weeks time. I'm hoping I can get even more money knocked off. :j

No chance of that. £9.99 is the lowest they'll go for anybody.

I've been on the £9.99 for over 18 months now. At the time I was told it was for however long I wanted to stay with them. I want to go wireless now so I will ring them tomorrow to try for a free wireless router!

  • Ive been paying 9.99 for silver package (which they upped to the gold mb level) for over a year and rang today to cancel. The guy i dealt with offered me 8mb for 17.99 which i declined as i wanted to pay less money not more !!

Ive recieved my mac code 2 hours later.
