This was pointed out *before* the email was sent, the mail could easily of been pulled, but they decided to go ahead with it. 1.75 million emails sent.

I seriously hope there is an apology in next weeks mail (if not before). A large propotion of this sites users do not have a good understanding of computers and the Internet, and also take emails from sites such as this as gospel.

Whether the software contains mal/spyware or not is irrelevant - the fact that antivirus picks it up is what is going to scare a LOT of users.

A large plug for Linux would also not go amiss. :D

Instructions on how to get "Print to PDF" in Windows using only free open source software: http://kenchiro.tripod.com/PDFHowTo.pdf
    (Ghostscript, and Redmon)

And there should be no plugs for adware when similar freeware is available.
I'm not getting any alerts when going on their website and it seems legitimate (looks like Google removed their warning too), however with adware then there's always a chance that malicious ads could be loaded.
  • Thanks to Martin for the great review, and to all the comments that have followed.

As a company we are, of course, deeply concerned about the security of our site and program, and would never do anything to harm our customers. We were unfortunately the victim of a malicious attack, which temporarily caused Google to flag us as an unsafe site. I can assure you (and you can see from Google) that everything has been sorted out and that GreenPrint's website and program are 100% safe to use. We're really sorry for the concern or trouble that this may have caused any of you. In terms of the ads, GreenPrint only connects to the internet in order to be able to serve you the ads, which allows us to make the program free. We don't collect any personal data about you beyond how many times the ads have been viewed and clicked on.

I noticed that someone wanted to see our Privacy Policy and contact details, which you can find at the bottom of https://www.printgreener.com/buy.php (privacy & refund policy) and https://www.printgreener.com/contact.html. Also, you only need to enter your email address before downloading if you wish to receive updates about GreenPrint. Feel free to leave it blank if you don't want to give out your address, we don't mind.

We always welcome your comments at support@printgreener.com.
Please feel free to be in touch if I can elaborate on any of the above, or address specific technical questions.

    Cheers,
    Caitlin

    >How do you get the info from the screen to Notepad

Just highlight the text you need, copy to Notepad, then print. You can change the font and size in Notepad if you prefer.

Or if you want to change it, copy and past this into a Word document.

Or if you are printing from a website directly, just highlight what you want to print, don't print everything. And never print in colour, unless you have to.

    >Far cheaper to set your printer to print B&W, econo/draft mode, duplex (double sided) - just set it up in the printer driver.

I agree, this software seems a bit unecessary. I have been printing in econo-mode for a year and don't notice the difference.

Its also good to buy a printer with a large cartridge. I got an HP recently with a thimble sized printer cartridge. I got an old printer with about 5x the capacity, lasts for ever.

*waits for all the Mac users to whinge about how they're badly done to*

Normally I would do - but - reality is, Mac users have had a similar product built into the OS since OSX came out (about 4-5 years ago to my recollection).

Its called Preview. As all Mac Printing is based on the PDF standard. When a Mac user chooses to Print something and option box comes up, with the print dialogue, that allows the user to either Save the document as a PDF (which is a very useful format to save documents in) or to preview the document, which basically converts it to a PDF and shows it on screen allowing you to choose which pages you wish to print etc. You can also resize it at this point if needed.

So no whingeing here. Just my pity on your poor PC users who think you've found something new, when OSX has had it built in all along. One day you'll all take your blinkers off and see what you've been missing.

Yes, no parts for sale, 3week repair turn around.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have only needed to repair one of my own macs once and a couple of friends. I have managed to get parts with no problems, cheaply and I fixed them in one evening so no 3 week repair turnaround.

This mac user aint moaning. But then again I don't have the mines better than yours attitude. People can use which system they want, I don't give a damn!

With many modern printers the cartridge's life ends when the chip says that it is due for replacement, not when when it's empty. So if you use software to save ink doesn't this mean that the cartidge won't last any longer, it will just have more ink in it when you thow it away? I don't know how these chipped cartidges work. Do they actually measure the ink used or just count the number of pages printed?

This PC user doesnt care nor does he have a mines better than yours attitude because unlike a Mac I can upgrade anything at any time.

That bit wasn't written 'at' you but others that really do that whole mines better than yours thing. I just don't go in for that. I think there is a place for PC's and Macs.

    what di you replace anyway.

    :rotfl: :rotfl:

I have replaced, hard drives, memory, reed switch, not anything difficult (apart from a hard drive on a 12" powerbook which is a total strip down which is fiddly rather than difficult), I enjoy doing it though.
