"I wonder how many people actually put their real email address in it rather than one from Mailinator etc?
It doesn't ask you to enter one - just tells you it's sent it!"0 -

To me the page asks to enter your email address, then there are two tick boxes underneath. Think they presume people will mandatory enter their email address then press the download button - well that's my take on the page layout.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
OOOH I've just found this thread from Martin's weekly e-mail update, he's recommending it on his site but after reading the replies on this thread I'm not going to bother and will make the changes suggested to my printer instead... Thing is, anyway to put something at the top of this thread to make sure others who don;t read the whole thread see that the recomended product might not be so flash after all?0

As with most of the rest of the thread, I think the solution is to involve yourself in what you print, rather than trusting it to additional software you don't really need.
I don't really care about ink, though (at 13p per cartridge, why should I?) but I do manage my print jobs properly to save paper.
Yep - you read right. 13p per cartridge (Epson R200, R220, R300, R320). I may try to start a "Great printer ink swindle" thread...0 -
Another option for converting to PDF is to install CutePDF
http://www.cutepdf.com/
This works as another printer in your list and will convert most things that you would print to PDF.
No ads, no watermarks and it works with VistaIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0 -
Tried this - not really worth it. Bloatware, slow, tries to connect to the internet and talk to its mothership to exchange "information". Removed.
HP Smart Web Printing is completely FREE, no ads, and does a much better job that:

Thanks for that one. It seems to do exactly what is wanted.

There is a standard option from Microsoft called "Document Image Writer" which is a virtual printer. To install follow these instructions,
1. Go to Control panel – Printer and fax
2. Add Printer – select local printer attached then manual
3. In the port option select Document image printer writer port
4. Install a generic text only printer.
5. Right-click on the generic text/only printer driver and select properties.
6. Click on ports and select "Microsoft office document imaging driver port"
7. Click on the advanced tab and change the driver to Microsoft office document image writer
8. Click on apply and OK
It sounds very similar to Fineprint and the original suggestion but has the benefit of being free, already on your computer, has no ads and from Microsoft0 -
Here's my tip to save on ink cartriges
1
Go to the Preferences of your Printer Driver, and choose Quck print or Fine print. This will reduce your ink usage by 30%. You'll be suprised to find that this quick print is fine for most correspondence. If you need high quality printing, you can always choose that for a particular document.
2
Never buy new cartriges. Refil them yourself (the refil kits can be bought at Tesco or other stores). Once you get the hang of refilling, you'll get used to it. Do it over the sink and wear rubber gloves the first time.
3
Buy reconditioned cartriges. They work most of the time, and are very cheap. You can find them on the web, or on Ebay. They aren't as good as original but near enough. ANd if there's a problem, you can always return them.
4
Never print directly from the web, always copy to a word or Notebook page
5
Never print in colour unless you have to. In preferences set all printing to B&W, and if you need colour, you can always choose that.
Happy printing!0 -
Gorf123 - where do you get your cartridges from - do tell! I have an Epson Stylus D68 - does this wonderful supplier of dead cheap cartidges sell suitable ones for that printer too?
Many thanks0
