Well, the simplest way to save ink and paper is to always copy website info into Notebook first.

I'm amazed at the no of people who print directly from the internet, and the money they shell out for paper and ink cartridges, when they can print the same sutff from Notepad using 1/3.

How do you get the info from the screen to Notepad

Try using Fineprint, downloadable at www.fineprint.com or via one of the many free download sites.

    Saves on ink & paper!!

The only advertising is at the bottom of the piece of paper which reads; "printed by software from www.fineprint.com".

Converts A4 to A5 (thus saving paper) also pdf facilities.

I have been using FinePrint for a while now and its a brilliant piece of software.
  • Best thing I ever did with my printer was change the default to print in Black and White. If I want colour, I specify it when I print the document. I've saved a fortune in ink costs just by doing this alone!!
  • That initial posting was a lovely ADVERT wasn't it.

I test software like this as part of my job - I work in print solutions and I would not recommend any of the packages listed for home use.

Far cheaper to set your printer to print B&W, econo/draft mode, duplex (double sided) - just set it up in the printer driver.
All software listed is, I am sure, wonderful, but my experiences with similar packages have been uniformly -ve.
e.g. Preton Saver - claims to saver toner, and a million other things, it doesn't tell you that when it is reducing dpi (dots per inch) it is also using colour to make black !
NOT saving money!. Also their UK reseller website contains lots of mis-information about how toner and ink are made.

Really - do yourself a favour - leave the software alone, print only what you need to, and set your printer to default to B&W, draft mode, double sided - if you want colour you can change it by selecting print. properties.

  • I've used Software995 (use Google for the website) for years to generate PDF files. No problems and vast saving in time, paper and ink.
  • As has already been said, most of the savings can be gained by setting up your printer defaults. Keeping your machine free of unnecessary software is important for maintaining good performance from your pc.
Through your control panel select printers (choose the default, ticked with right mouse button and select properties) and set the defaults there and they will stay as the defaults. Setting properties midst printing a document doesn't make them the default! If you need colour, non double sided and or better quality for a particular document do it midst printing that particular doc.
Often, for printing from the internet, look out for the printer friendly button.

Best advice I can give is whilst exploring through control panel route look at every option and see what can done!
Debt free, the best way to be. :A
  • Not good - I did trust the source and have downloaded the programme. It did send my e-mail (or at least said that't what it was sending) somewhere. I then Googled the Company which carrys a "not trusted" warning. I've deleted the programme and am now spending the rest of the day running virus/adware/malware w.h.y. I await the inbox avalanch with some trepidation. Not a good start to the day.
  • OpenOffice is a free (GNU) package like Microsoft Office, it has a button next to the print button to convert to PDF.
I use it all the time, and don't even have Microsoft Office installed on my computer any more.
OpenOffice can open and save into it's own file format, or microsoft's (.doc, .xls etc).
If you need, quick easy and free pdf conversion I'd recommend this one.
All posts made are simply my own opinions and are not professional advice.

I normally copy and paste to Word the bits from a web page that I want to print . I can normally get rid of most of the excess pictures etc. and still have what I need. Simple!

I wonder how many people actually put their real email address in it rather than one from Mailinator etc? :D
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)
