Why do you throw away eggs? They last way past the date on them, and can always been made up into something - eggs for breakfast, hard boiled eggs for snacks, omelettes, cakes, pancakes etc. Try the float/sink test to see if the eggs are safe to eat if unsure

I love egg sarnies to - but I like my eggs to be boiled so that the yolk is soft but not runny, and not solid-hard boiled... and I'm having trouble getting them that way!! Any tips on getting the perfect boiled egg?!Savings target: £25000/£25000

The way I make my boiled eggs just right is:
Start with the egg at room temperature
Have the water bubbling in the pan
Put the egg in and start timing
After 1 minute, switch the heat off and cover the pan
Leave covered for 5 mins
Gives a lovely cooked white and runny yolk. If you leave it in the pan an extra minute/90 secs it should give a soft but not runny yolk :-)Feeding 2 adults and 5 piglets aged 7 months, 7, 8, 10 & 13. Thank heaven for Aldi!:rotfl:

I was looking for a little advice, or a point in the direction of the best thread to read!
I'm trying to keep my food budget as low as possible, so I can pay off my overdraft, but I have a very fussy OH. He doesn't like vegetarain food besides pasta bakes. He wont eat mince (or anything made from), pork, lamb, the only meats he does really eat is chiken, beef and sometimes turkey.
He wont eat vegetables, pulses, etc but he will scoff chocolate, crisps, pepsi and what I like to call "Crap" inc ready meals etc
How do you manage looking after grocerys , meal planning on a budget with that?! He does take his lunch to work, normally consisting of 2 sandwhiches, chocolate, crisps, an apple, nutrigrain bar and a can of pepsi.
I'd love to get him to eat more healthy, he isn't over weight either, although he eats terribly.

Does your OH like home-made soups? That might be a way of getting him to eat some veges. They're fairly cheap to make and that way you can blend up the veges.
Or if he eats beef burgers (?) maybe adding some salad to a burger in pitta bread?
Also, not sure how to do this myself, but there are people on this board who can make a whole chicken last for several meals, so maybe that might be a way to save some money.0 -
You get your DH to eat an apple with his lunch? :T
I used to find 'nests' of fruit in my DH's car, I don't bother any more :rotfl:
Mine has two ham AND cheese andwiches, two packs of crips, two biscuit bars and a yogurt, luckily he doesn't do fizzy drinks. I am lucky that he isn't fussy at dinner times though, he has 'tried' to be, claiming he's allergic to peas etc etc. I do have to limit the pasta bakes and things or he will moan.
How about jacket potatoes? My DH will eat them with something 'meaty' like a chili (obviously no good for yours). Quiche? I put a bit of ham/bacon in and DH can't moan about no meat (well, he tries).
I have to say, your DH does sound a lot more difficult than mine, who mostly has to put up with the cheap meals I make because he knows how much food costs. Then he is extra grateful when we have something fancy!
Can you try getting him involved, going through the food budget and explaining the cost of the things he likes, maybe cut them down and he can 'try' some of the cheaper meals. Could you get him to overcome the mince issue?June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

I've a feeling that wouldn't get past the packed lunch police if it was at school :rotfl:
.
Hahaha that made me laugh! I know, sometimes I think he is 4 more than 24 when it comes to eating!
I have sometimes even managed to get him to eat celery.
He wont eat burgers, I even tried him with expensive (yellow stickered heavily!) angus aberdeen mince ! he wouldn't have it, i froze it in portions for myself later.
He wont have soup if it has vegetables in, although Im considering blending some in to a chicken stock. (I can do the rubber chicken ! one trick ive learnt)
It's getting tedious, I generally eat very little meat, and mostly vegetables, pulses etc I'm sure it can't be doing his health any good!
He also wont eat bananas, or oranges (he doesnt like to have to peel oranges)
Tonight I am making Chicken Casserole, I've got carots and celery (and potatos) in there, but no where near 5 a day for him!Weightloss: 18lbs/28lbs (Start weight: 11st, Current 9st 10)
