    Hi

If you change your phone does your mobile phone number change as well? You probably realise from this question that I have had my mobile for years and always have it with me, but don't use it that often (i.e. I put £20 in February 2006 and I still have £12.75 left!). However, I would like to change it. If anyone can answer it would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks

I've just bought one! At this price how can you go wrong?

I currently use Tesco mobile top up and have inherited my son's 'phones every time he upgrades, but he's let me down 'cos he's using his old 'phone as a remote control for his Apple. I usually get the 'phones unlocked at my local IT shop for a tenner (they wanted £15, but we did a deal)

I shall certainly try the unlocking process shown on this site or, I might even port over to ASDA.

When do we get disposable mobiles? that's what I would like. Much easier than roaming etc.

Many thanks, Andrea and The Hustler

No, you can bring your old number with you if you want. Get a SIM for the new network (will come with this phone). Then ring up your old network and ask for a PAC, a Porting Authentication Code. Give this number to your new network and they'll move your old number to your new phone. Can take a few days, so it might be good to keep both phones switched on as you don't know which SIM people will be calling you on until the change goes through.

Moneysaving Tip: from landlines it's often cheaper to ring numbers originally issued by O2 than other networks (especially Three who are much more expensive than the rest). But if you port a number the rate to ring from landlines is based on where it originally came from, not where it is now. So to make it as cheap as possible for people to call you, grab an O2 SIM and port the number across to your chosen network. The mobile networks will know where your number really is (so won't get charged X-net unless you actually are) but landlines will always think you're on O2 and charge the cheaper rate.

Hows Asda head office this morning ragpot?

    Your post made me :rotfl:

Yes. I think the neutral thing to do here is point out that PAYG tariffs vary. The first thing to do is to know your mobile usage and then work from there to find the best value. Asda might be OK for some people but for my monthly usage (the odd call and media message, 150-200 texts and 4 MB of browsing) it is not the best value, even with this bargain handset.

you can 'port' your number accross to asda as someone said above but you'll loose the credit on your current number when you change networks, check with the if theyll repay you for unspent credit (unlikely) or if they can keep it with a different number
may be easier just to buy a handset already from your network or one from another network and just pop your simcard in

DH and I have 'phones on the Vodaphone network could we put our SIMM cards in the new 'phones and still keep what credit we have and the same number?

    Thank you

Just telephoned my branch and they say they don't have sell the online 'phones:cry:

It was worth a try. Would still like to know if I could have used existing SIMM card.

I see were both MSE's coz I have had 3 sim cards cancelled due to the fact that I put no credit on them in 12 months. In the last 5 to 6 years Ive put £20 credit in my phones.

Not to say I havent got friends its my gf pays £1 a month with t mobile and gets free minutes after 7 hence why I am always caught using her mins.
