Sim cards from 02 and other networks are allready pre-packaged and placed randomly within the envelopes.

They do not keep the records of these number sent out to the recipients of the free sim.

As for orange sims, there is no number sent out, you only get your number once the sim card has been activated.

    Talk about scaremongers

So, you think it's only the number that IDs the SIM, that the other codes on the SIM have no relevance, and that the SIM only IDs to the network via the telephone number - AND that the companies have no idea what they send out.
    I see.
    As you wish ...

Did anyone even mention any other form of number on the sim card, err NO.

All sims have a unique number on them. As to the companies keeping records of every sim sent out, then i would say no, as i know for a fact 02 do not keep track.

But hey if want to carry on scaremongering, please feel free.

And if you really do want to scare people, then why not tell them that every phone conversation in this country is automatically recorded.

Exactly. There are other printed numbers and other electronically embedded ID. You've contradicted yourself.

As I said, if being naïve suits you, fine. Automatic "trigger" monitoring is used on international calls, which will record calls if certain topics are discussed. Especaily on US routed or bound calls. It's primarily vocabulary-driven.

Why DO you think that the SIS are relectant to give evidence based on these technologies in court? Because it shows both the extent of possibilities and technical limitations - in effect, showing the hand of what is possible and done, and what can't be done.

But hey, you know better than me ...

even so there would be no evidence against you, only the fact that the sim was sent to you. Whether or not it can be tracked or not. You don't have anything to worry about if you have nothing to hide.

But the subject here is, what to do with the sim cards, not whether you can get traced using them for illegal purposes. If you don't think it is safe to sell them, don't. Personally I don't think there is a problem selling them, I have been doing it for 2 years now.

Orange sims require people to register them before you get a number, so if you sell an orange sim it can't be traced back to you once its used, because it is regsitered to someone else.

Also, O2 actually tell people to give their sims to other people, so it is not illegal to sell them, and you would find it hard to be prosecuted based only on the fact the sim was ordered by you.

If you sell them on ebay you have proof that you sold them any way so no need to worry.

If you register the sim online when you receive it, you get a further £2 free.
Do you have a link? I've just registered online and am still showing as having £5. Thanks.

EDIT: Ignore me - just received this lovely email ;)

To say thanks for registering online, we've added £2 of airtime to your account. That's around 60 free texts or 60 free minutes to another Virgin Mobile phone. You'll see it added to your account in the next few days.

    and Jamster:

Both of these work by allowing you to pay their associated fee via a text message which takes money off your SIM card. If using Jamster remember to send a text message to cancel as the charges are weekly.
