Morning all
Not so good here today. Got a phonecall at 4.45 to say Nan-in-law has taken a turn for the worse and that MIL needed to go in. She has since phoned to say that they have only given her a few hours. She is 92 so know it is no big shock but upsetting none the less. Not sure what to say to the littles about it, or how to explain it. I guess I was about 8 when the first person I knew passed away so understood what it was about a bit more. DDs are 5 and 3 1/2, they love their NannyGrans to bits so just not sure what to say? any tips or advice gratefully received. I am sorry if this brings back bad memories for anyone, that really is not my intention I just dont know who else to ask?
Shell just read this post, so sorry to hear that NIL is not well. For my tupenneth I would say try to stick to the truth as far as is possible in relation to their age. Something alone the lines of Nan is very old and her body is getting very tired, when they the body get's very tired it stops working and the person dies. If you believe in God (or any other religion/the after life) then you might want to say that Nan's spirit has gone to heaven and she will be able to see all that they are doing.
When DH died I told A what had happened and we had several conversations about how and why, not that we had all the answers at the time but I was honest if I couldn't give an answer. Whilst I did tell W as well, I felt he was too young to fully comprehend what was going on. He knew Daddy was not there and assumed he was at work.
I think the key is honesty no matter how hard that might seem. And as others have said I wouldn't suggest using the words 'gone to sleep' or 'gone to live with God' (or other as approp) as it could scare them more. If you tell a fib and you get 'found out' later they will begin to doubt other things you say.
Waterbugs and Dragonflies is a great analogy, A thought it was a great story and it helped her to understand a bit more http://castlehillchurch.org/Waterbugs.pdfOfficial Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -

I got stuck too
couldn't get on this thread for ages, when I do post it vanishes (hopefully not this time but have copied and pasted it) I did the GC ones and they took ages, then poooooof they were gone.
Supposedly it's snowing a mile away from me, but have told DP it can stay there, I don't wanna see snow!!! He's trying to get me to drive through to get the tyres changed on his car tomorrow, if it snows or is icy he's got no chance, that car is his baby and if I damaged it he'd kill me.
Think I will watch Market Kitchen and dash in and out of the kitchen to tidy it up during the advertsI hate coming down to a messy kitchen, then must get to bed, DS2 getting up at 3am (thought he'd have a sleep today but hasn't and went to bed at 9pm) I am tired. Oh should empty the washer too, school coats need washing this weekend, ewwwww, what on earth do they do in them?
Ooooo 10 points per £1 on Boots.com plus I spotted codes on here earlier, think more stocking up on pull ups is needed. One day I might be more organised...........

Definately agree with Dusty, sometimes the comments after a death can be funny/make you want to hide with embarrassment. Suppose I know my son understands old people die when waiting for my Nana to open the door (takes her a while) he said 'Oh might be dead, old people do that sometimes, home time' in a very matter of fact way, turned around and started heading back to the car, she heard him through the window and thankfully she's got a great sense of humour and was laughing so much she struggled to open the door. He's asked a few old people if they will die soon aswell, wish he wouldn't but I suppose at least he understands it'll happen now, unfortunately couple of years ago we lost many relatives and friends in a year, went to over 10 funerals
he sort of had to get used to it.
:rotfl::rotfl:at your DS. Kids have this way of embarrassing adults! But great that he can express himself in such a way.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0 -
Hi folks
Just when I have time to come on here, no one's around! Oh well, it's been a funny old week. I haven't done as much flying as hoped, but maybe next week will be better. I'm hoping to get a few extra chores done over the weekend. We've no snow yet, but the forecast is bad, so apart from the Homecheck and the shopping, I'm not planning to go far. It's gone very cold, so since I got back from my friend's, I've re-hemmed a fleece blanket for our bed (the dog chewed a bit of it), so we'll have an extra layer tonight. I find it difficult to sleep with the window tight shut, so that means we're not too cold. Daft, I know, but I find I get wheezy with my asthma if I shut the window tight, probably psychological!:o
I've seen bits in posts about the Forum rules and changes, and mention of going elsewhere! I've obviously missed something, so if anyone can fill me in, would they pm me please?
Hugs to one and all. For those of you who are pregnant (Michelle), don't overdo things, try to get some rest. The same for anyone who's not very well.
