they were from lidl at christmas, just their normal stuff, i havent opened them so i think its a sort of juice syrup, not as thick as syrup.

    Hi all,

I've got an abundance of raspberries and blackcurrants.

I'm thinking of making jam with both but thought would ask here to see if anyone had any other ideas.

    Many thanks

Cordials, but you need to blet the blackcurrants before you make it - cover with water and wait until they just start to ferment. That breaks down the pectin.

Other wise you get blackcurrant jelly in a bottle. Ruddy hard to get out. I know - I did it the first time.

Raspberry vodka. Split a pound of fruit, a pound of sugar and a bottle of vodka between 2 bottles and shake regularly. Leave for at least 6 months but longer is even better if you can resist!

juice, squash, jam/jelly, pie filling, cakes/muffins etc, compote, ice cream/ice lollies or freeze them whole till you decide later. Boiled sweets/candy

Wine? Beer? Gin? Sorry don't know as I have an allergy to alcohol so can't recommend but found this site that might help http://www.cottagesmallholder.com/category/drinks/liqueurs/

    Hi alionaear,

Both freeze well for using later in puddings and jams and can be used from frozen to make smoothies. They do go mushy though once defrosted.

    These threads have more ideas:

    Blackcurrants

One of us will merge this thread later.
