    Read and learn.

For the odd couple of days hot weather in this country, can you justify spending £1200 on air/con.

Learnt something new and reassuring from that link, thankyou "A pool of water under the car is, of course, not the result of a leak but of condensation dripping off the condenser and is entirely normal."

Air conditioning is essential to me. I'm finding it infuriating right now that I'm looking to lease a car that if it doesn't come as standard, I'm being asked to pay something like £60 a month extra - it isn't worth that much, believe me!

I once drove H's car and turned up at school looking like I'd wet myself because I was sweating so hard. It's not fair on the little ones either when they can't breathe because the front windows are open - I bet most people remember that from when they were a kid; the wind hitting you full on in the face. The air that comes out of the regular fan I find cloying - I literally want to be sick and have to open the window even in winter, which kind of defeats the object of a heater!
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'll add I also prefer cars without ABS, without electric windows unfortunaltely finding them without these proves very difficult, so I end up with them.

Hi Wig just have to say that i'm with you on your views on some of the things cars have these days! I have a 2001 Punto which i love btw and when we bougth it i made sure it had no:

    Sunroof, same reasons as you
Electric windows: sick of them playing up in previous cars
Automatic locking: after seeing 2 mums at school waiting for someone to rescue their children out of their handy self locking cars that didn't want to unlock lol
A/C: i don't drive enough really to warrant it, i also never really get stuck in the traffic i.e rush hour
ABS: My brakes are just fine without..one of my friends drives a huge Volvo and theirs failed 6 months ago, they still haven't had it done..can't be that important!

BUT we are looking at leasing a car at the end of the year and i guess the one we want will have all the above as standard!! difference is i won't be stuck with it as such and i can have it repaired far easier than if it were my own!!

To the OP i would just decide wether you really want AC and wether it is worth the loss of deposit etc. Good luck.

You shouldn't ever turn AC off. Running a car with the AC off for any length of time will dry the seals on the system out, resulting in leakage of the AC fluid, and an AC system that stops working.

Leave it on. It keeps the car interior dry. The effect on fuel economy is small, and in cars like VWs and Mercedes makes no difference whatsoever to fuel economy.

/11 year old car, 200,000 miles, with AC in perfect working order.

    Sorry - wrong.

Never turn A/C off???? Agreed one should use it at some point all year round or parts (ie pump) could seize. But all the time is over the top. 5 to 10 minutes a week would be enough to keep things running. Continuous would be ridiculous unless you prefer to drive with it on.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a car without climate control/AC - but that is my choice. Each to his/her own. :D

I'm not talking about the airconditioning....but if you "buy" something in this way and havent actually taken delivery is there a cooling off period when you can get your deposit back?

I just thought I better update the story now.

I decided to buy neither of the cars!! I thought that coupled with the mileage I do and the fact you would lose a giant whack of money the moment I drove off in the new car it may be better looking for something a little older within my budget.I thought that as the car is my office and canteen as well as transport, comfort is important . Looking around some local dealers I saw a 30 month old Citroen C4 at the same price as the new Fiesta. This has about everything I could want and more inc a/c. It was 14K new so the depreciation won't be so bad in 2-3 years when I come to sell it on.

I got more for my trade in too so it has balanced out the lost deposit so I am happy. Now looking forward to getting the new car tomorrow! Thanks to all for the comments in this thread.:)

BTW, I have sent a letter to the dealer asking if they could consider a refund of the deposit, even if just a credit towards servicing etc.No harm in trying ;)

    You must have been unlucky.
My last two cars have both done 100000 miles from new and I have had none of the above problems.

As for ABS it is one of the best things to have been added to cars if used correctly in an emergency, ie.. forget cadence braking and remember to steer
