think its a personal prefference on AC.
for me living in the city its a great feature especially when stuck in traffic.
you can have the heating set to cold but without moving air or AC you are cooking0 -

Read and learn.
For the odd couple of days hot weather in this country, can you justify spending £1200 on air/con.
AC is handy in the winter for drmisting thr windscreen at twice the speed of sound rather than the conventional fan...
Also makes the air in the car nicer.
99% of people think that air con is ONLY ONLY ONLY ever to be used when its baking hot outside.
Wrong!0 -
I've just done a 200 mile round trip to some friends over in Yorkshire - I went there is a Skoda Roomster 1.6 16v I got on a FREE 24 hour test drive (see other threads) and I had the AC on all the way there and back, just cos its pleasant. The thing whizzed over the Yorkshire Moors with ease and the onboard computer told me I'd averaged 38mpg.
Without the AC on I'd guess it'd do 39mpg.....0 -
Dead right I haven`t,no need for it in this country (selling gimmick)
Someone else mentioned £1200-£1500,I also quoted the difference between the Style and Style "climate"
Why don`t you read Honest John
a guy who knows what he`s talking about and not just guessing like yourself.

Different link to previous one.
If you are going to nit pick - do get your facts right !
1. I do read Honest John often and agree with much of what he says and if you had bothered to read the excerpt which your link goes to you would see that he is actually praising the virtues of aircon:
"the effect of the aircon on economy is likely to be less than that of opening the sunroof fully, and certainly less than opening the windows as well."
"it is excellent for de-misting"
He points out the disadvantages of aircon on a small engine but nowhere does he say, or even imply, that aircon is a waste of money.
2.As you refer to "Style" and "Style Climate" I assume your talking about a Ford. This terminology is used on the smaller cars in their range - the price differential on these two versions of a Fiesta is actually £600, somewhat different from your price differential of £1200 - which has now mysteriously risen to £1500, presumably to support your failing argument. Agree you were not the one who originally mentioned £1200 - but you were quite happy to quote this totally erroneous figure as it appeared to support your case
3. You appear to say that your Ford dealer wanted £800 for aircon - he didn't see you coming, he sent for you !!! Find an honest dealer !
4. The Climate pack actually comprises: aircon, heated windscreen (another great device!) and heated electric door mirrors. Excellent value !
5. The only person "guessing" round here, I'm afraid, is yourself. You, apparently who has never had aircon, are telling me who has (and has had several cars in the past with) this fit that I am "guessing". Pots and kettles spring to mind !
I apologise to other readers for taking up so much space but when I see so much "hot air" being spouted and being supported by such weak or non-existent evidence I just had to put the ice-cold facts on record !0 -
don't worry about alared's comments he is a well known tight git:D

When I look for a car I look for one....
WITHOUT a sunroof - I don't see the point of them,
it is a weak spot for leaks in the future,
they make the car hot by letting the sun in,
and I very rarely open them if I do have one.
WITHOUT A/C
It's personal preference, I thought a few years ago I'd try a car with AC and I never used it except to keep it in good condition. When you use it in winter as a demister as soon as you turn it off it mists up again worse than before! I'd rather have the heater on it may be slower demisting but atleast you're warm and you're not loosing fuel.
AC compressors are great big heavy lumps so add weight to the engine.
All the AC plumbing in the engine bay just complicates DIY repairs.
OH hates the air quality with AC 'on', compared with fresh air
I am perfectly happy (in our climate) to have the vents open and maybe the windows down an inch or two.
There is no way that a car with AC 'on' compared to a car with a window open an inch or two are going to use the same amount of fuel, the AC one will use more. and not 38 as opposed to 39mpg more like 38 as opposed to 42mpg.

Just my point of view.
I am in my car for a lot of the time every working day and I WOULD NOT be without A/C and I can assure peeps on here I use it for more than a few days a year.
I would def go with the one with A/C.
Just as an extra, my neighbour took 5 months to sell his imaculate focus last year...without A/C0 -

Try here for any new ford,
They are a genuine dealer + very cheap! They do deliver for decent prices too.0 -
You shouldn't ever turn AC off. Running a car with the AC off for any length of time will dry the seals on the system out, resulting in leakage of the AC fluid, and an AC system that stops working.
Leave it on. It keeps the car interior dry. The effect on fuel economy is small, and in cars like VWs and Mercedes makes no difference whatsoever to fuel economy.
