Changing your name for FREE by Deed Poll

After searching for a change of name service for my new wife, I discovered the following site:
http://freedeedpoll.co.uk
I found lots of sites offering a deed poll service, but charging the earth (up to £50) to do so.
I knew that all you needed was the correct wording and a witness to sign the deed, so basically you can do it yourself.
Anyway, I filled in the form and printed off a few copies and sent them to the bank, passport office and dvla.
My wife is very happy with her new documents and we spent the saved money on a night out .

Does'nt ask for your email or phone number and although you have to enter your address you don't need your postcode. Seems ok, doubt its water tight though.Did you know you can get Viagra software now??? Yeah, it turns your floppy drive into a hard drive0

Doesnt look legal to me. I thought all the information had to be properly registered which is why it has a fee. Maybe I am wrong but I wouldnt be totally confident with it.0

If your changing your name because your married it's free anyways.
Just tell people you've changed your name, some places like banks ask for a copy of your wedding cert but none charge you to change your name because you got married.
That alone makes me think this is spamDon’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0 -
It is spam because of all the ads on the page. People don't set up websites like that just for fun!
Also the OP 'discovered' the site last February. Why would he suddenly want to mention it again now?!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Posted several times before and seems to be genuine enough. Has ads because its non-profit making, does'nt mean its spam.Did you know you can get Viagra software now??? Yeah, it turns your floppy drive into a hard drive0 -

masterbrown, you get a feeling for these things, and this is pretty blatant spamming. Why would the OP suddenly decide to post it again after so long?!!
Also, the OP first posted it just four days after the site was registered. Coincidence? I don't think so.Gone ... or have I?0 -
load of poppy poop that fees are charged no one would charge nothing for this service. And its not just the application that costs in the delivery cost of the change , documentation and legal fees. If you want to change your name for a fraction of the cost just apply for a statuatory declaration .0

Im not too sure about the link, but I know for a fact that you shouldnt pay to change your name as Ive done so myself.
All you need is the correct wording and a witness - no solicitors involved.
I changed my name when my my remarried about 15 years ago but only needed to do this officially about 2 years ago. It seemed wrong to me that I should have to pay some company silly amounts of money, so looked into this and found out the truth.
I contacted my local Citizens Advice Bureau and they gave me the information I needed, and now my name is officially changed without any cost whatsoever.0
