So, I have been reading these deed poll sites, as far as I can gather changing your name by deed poll is essentially producing a piece of paper which states your new name and that you will no longer be using the old name and that is all there is to it - is this correct? Many thanks!

Correct, but it must be signed by a witness, too.

There is no need of solicitors or deed polls.

As long as you are not doing it for an illegal purpose or fraud all you need to do is say "That from this day forth I wish to known as ?????" and that will be your name.

Just tell the people that need to know.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Try obtaining a new passport without a Deed Poll or Statutory Declaration. Won't happen.

Waste of money. Should have done it yourself for free.
  • I agree, you will need it signed by a solicitor, I changed my surname last year, you will be unlikely to gain anything official such as a passport with something you have drafted yourself.

Incorrect. Do it yourself for free. No solicitors required.

A statutory declaration is sufficient for most puposes.

Our CAB does them for free. Try asking yours.
