making a stat dec will cost you a fiver at your local friendly solicitor. (although you'll need to draft your own declaration - which isn't the hardest thing in the world and there are prob some knocking around in cyberhell)My signature has been removed by the authorities. fedupconsumer wrote: »load of poppy poop that fees are charged no one would charge nothing for this service. And its not just the application that costs in the delivery cost of the change , documentation and legal fees. If you want to change your name for a fraction of the cost just apply for a statuatory declaration .
fedupconsumer is quite correct, it would be a lot easier to get a statutory declaration. They cost about £15 from the solicitors, and you will absolutely no trouble with banks or officialdom (I have one from when I changed my name)
Strictly speaking though, you do not need any documents, because legally in this country you can call yourself, and expect to be addressed by whatever name you wish. As long as it isn't for criminal reasons (e.g. dodging debt or the police) then you can be whatever you like.
Whether the site in question is SPAM or not, I don't know, but if you wanted to change your name, it would be more prudent to spend the £15 or so quid to get it done properly and then you will have no comebacks from anyone as they have a professional to refer to.0 -
I have changed my surname on more than one occasion in the past and like many, I had always thought that I had to pay for the deed poll service from someone like a solicitor. This is not the case and as long as the wording on the document is written correctly, you can simply type your own Deed Poll document up using your own PC and print it off, perfectly legal, acceptable everywhere and all above board.
However, I have recently used the above website to obtain the free Deed Poll which I have used to change my name. The document provided is perfectly acceptable by everyone I have sent it to and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I would recommend this site to anyone wishing to change their name as there is no reason at all to pay for this document and if anyone tells you otherwise then they don't know what they are talking about!0 -
I.ve found another free deed poll company uk-adult-deed-poll.co.uk0

I used the site in the first post myself a couple of months ago.
Havent received any spam, you just need to get 2 people to sign it as wittnesses, I just used my mothers partner and oh's cousin, so no official solicitor types needed.
I have had no problems in changing my name over with my bank, doctors, child beneift etc0 -

i changed my name using deed poll, did it myself much easier and cost free than using a legal service or one of those online places. got the wording from some website found on google (sorry cant find link but will try find it again)....copied into my own paper, as UK requires two witness signatures. I made about 4 copies of the deed poll so i can send the banks, goverment agencies copies etc at the same time.0
