Air Source Heat Pumps

Rich, I don't see how the Samsung can heat and cool simultaneously, from what I can gather it can heat..... with air to air.....via wall mounts..... and....... air to water at the same time. The main use for the TDM is for Spring/Autumn which allows the wall mounts to heat the air quickly while UFH is still getting up to temperature, whereas the wall mounts can be used for cooling in the summer....saves having a seperate outdoor unit.
In the link I posted it shows you in the brochure how it does this.
It provides cooling via air to air and heating via air to water... obviously in summer you are going to want hot water as well as cooling and I reckon it uses the rejected heat from the air conditioning units to heat the hot water tank.
The Samsung will do heating and hot water at the same time whereas many of the others companies systems can only do one or the other so many people set the hot water to run twice a day and the rest of the time heating. If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
mmmmm, I think you could be right rich, I could not download the brochure as it was a 57mb file, so I just looked at the small PDF I already had.
I suppose I shoulda gone to specsavers.......;)There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

The heat recovery idea if thats how it does it is a very good idea.
Something other companies havent done yet.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Any advance on a COP of 6;)
Hey even with the outside temp at 30C and used to heat water for a swimming pool at 32C you ain't going to get a COP of 6.
If you get a year round COP in the region of 3 it will be good.

Well 5.71 on cooling!
These are essentially single room heaters/Aircon units - the sort some people use on a conservatory.
Only the the small ones give the very high heating COP and then the figure is at 7C.
The larger ones - and still not large enough for a house - at 7c have a COP of 4.070 -
That's precisely how I am going to use them, as single room heaters & coolers.
They supplement the oil fired CH (the boiler will continue to heat the hot water as well) which I will programme for overnight heating, meaning they won't be running when temps are at their lowest.
Average winter temps are around 7c in the UK so on average I will be getting a COP of 5.56 in Winter and 5.71 in Summer.
Sounds good to me :T0 -

Agree absolutely - IMO that is often the most effective way of using ASHPs and the moment - reasonably cheap to buy and install.0 -

Hi Bob,
I've had 2 of the last generation Hyperinverters providing all my space heating for the last 2 years (COP 5.45 Heating). In the last 12 months, these used 1400KWh of electric (~£140).
To put that in perspective, I noted that I use 910KWh a year just to watch my Plasma telly.
Enjoy!0 -
Thanks a lot for such a good information...0

The Mitsi HI Hyperinverters were £575 each - my usual air con man (who I think is starting to take the mickey a little) charged £750 to install them both.
If I do get a COP of c5 then I'm hoping to swap some oil kw's @ 5.29p for ASHP kw's @ 1.88p at current (excuse the pun) prices.0
