Hi all, just clocked a couple of defrost cycles on my 2 Mitsi's. One of the status LED's blinks green, and there's a slight chill drifting from the louvres for about 5 mins. The power consumption sits at ~500 watts during this phase.
That's the first time I've seen this happen, so it's not a regular feature of modern ASHP units.
Very pleased to report that the units are still belting out hot air and have no problems delivering even when christmas caked in snow. (all melted here within 4 hours)
Running costs are still awesomely cheap. I'm on iMeasure, and during the summer my house has a double 'C' rating, but for the last 2 weeks we've been a double 'A'. I really don't try - plasma TV, 24/7 Server and a ton of IT kit.
A note on the MHRV's - still very pleased with how effective these are. I like dawdling around in the bathroom after a shower. The vent is blasting in air, but not cold at all. And better at drying out the room too now it's got colder as the outdoor air is drier.0 -
What temps are you at outdoors steve? Some people have reported as low as -10C for their underfloor heating ASHPs.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0

Compressor !!!!!! you say?
Here's mine, looking rather icy again, the outdoor temps having remained below freezing for days - and the fan was sucking in chunks of snow all morning!0 -
Love the ice forming on the front!
Is the drainage hole clear now?
It looks to have recently done a defrost as no ice on the coils! If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Yes, managed to clear the drainage hole yesterday and it's stayed clear since. It's doing a defrost every hour or so now that the air is so damp. Expected to get down to minus lots again tonight, so no doubt it will be all bunged up with ice again tomorrow!0

Quick update after my posts back in 2007.
Two excellent units, both inverters, both keeping my house at 23 degrees and it's -7 outside! Had them over a year now. Self installed, Great stuff.0 -
yes -5 here and dropping so I guess were gonna have a rough nigth tonight, mines defrosting about once every 1.5 hours has been running all day though and not cut off on thermo off thats prob cos all the units in the house run off the same outdoor unit so all the rooms are demanding different temps etc.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0
