A complete sub zero day today, following a low of -7C this morning and despite the system temp being a few degrees below normal this morning it's held together remarkably well. The output is clearly down, as would be expected, but the house temps are reasonable (not quiet at set point) and I have a full tank of hot water again.

Outdoor temps are already down to -2C tonight.

Electricity consumption has been about 20KW/h higher than normal today, but hard to know how much of that is down to ASHP as I started back to work today and have been working from the home office, so 4 computers, lights & A/C on all day in the cabin in the garden. A/C in log cabin has worked brilliantly all day - few defrosts, but to be expected.

What make is the A/C you have in your cabin?

They really are the best way of getting heat into a room through fan forced air.

It has been freezing all day, I also think the air is quite dry as I have only known of 1 defrost since 8am.

What are your set points and actual room temps at present then Andy?

I don't know if I should admit to owning an "Airforce" (B&Q). I picked it up for £150 though from an unfinished project advertised in Trade-It. It was cheap, easy to fit and works remarkably well.

We've had freezing fog all day -excepting for a couple of hours this afternoon where the sun managed to break through. Defrosts here have been frequent and I have large icicles hanging off the bottom of the unit (will take a pic tomorrow if they are still there). System water temp is set to 45C and has run at over 40 all day, but never quiet reached set point and turned off. Rooms stats are all set to 21C or 22C and I have set them to manual 24/7 as the weather is so cold. All rooms except the bedroom have reached the set point today - bedroom is the last radiator on the pipe run though and second biggest room to heat, so not surprised that one has struggled. It's currently 19C in the bedroom, so still acceptable given that it is already -3C out again tonight!

edit - if the system gets through this week without freezing up or seizing the compressor then it will get through just about anything!

I woudnt worry about it Andy. The inverter systems have so many different protection systems they really are quite safe.

If it starts running too hard and the compressor temp gets too hot then it will overheat and cut out on thermal.

Perhaps they are saying that down to -5 it then starts to lose out put quite rapidly but will continue to run.

Your room temps are all quite comfortable and the system is working well it seems.

my bedroom is only kept at 18/19C anyway I hate it any warmer in there so really you could do to set this room at 18/19C so that when it achieves that it is taking some load of the system rather than tryin to achieve higher?

Very cold tonight and forescast snow the rest of the week now as well... cant wait!

It's certainly an unprecedented spell of cold in this area. -3.6C out already tonight and still falling.

I can if you like haha :A

No seriously though, if you like it warm in there then so be it, theres nothing worse than having bedroom too hot, it has to be between 18/19C otherwise I wake up too hot and any less and I wake up cold!
