Thanks Pace. I have done both. Well, it's back up & running. Will see how it performs over the next week as I believe we are about to get another icy plunge!
The manual says the heat pump will over ride the programmer and turn itself on if there is a risk of freezing, but I guess I need a backup should the power fail!
The manual also says that I can add anti-freeze to the system. At the moment I have Wickes corrosion inhibitor, so guess if I drain the system, flush it out and refill with an anti-freeze mixture it should work fine? anti-freeze also inhibits corrosion doesn't it?0 -
Yes Anti Freeze does indeed, I know people who have used the same formula that they would use in their car radiators and worked fine obviously need a little bit more in though.
Yes you would need a backup power should it fail but then again any heating system would be the same lol!!!If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -

So no danger of rotting the system from the inside out with anti-freeze?
I have run the heat pump from my 2KW petrol generator before, so if the worst happened and I was here and needed heat & hot water I wouldn't have to worry too much!0 -
Its good that you have a backup generator most ppl dont!
I would check with the manufacturers but i dont think its a problem, I know other manufacturers that reccomend it as standard.
Should I use antifreeze in the groundloop?
Yes, ideally. In case of leakage, it is important to use a non-toxic antifreeze. The
cheapest and easiest solution is to use common salt. You should add enough salt
to protect to -12C.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0 -
Ask in the following forum though to be sure...

yeh it will start to ice up but icinig up in 3 hours isnt that bad, your loft would have been colder if outside is 2C.If you found my post helpful, please remember to press the THANKS button! --->0
