Some slightly more accurate info on RHI .....
http://www.berr.gov.uk/energy/sources/renewables/policy/renewableheatincentive/page50364.html
Its far to early to know what will actually happen let alone quote how much you'll get paid and whether Heat pumps are included!
Even FITs which are much further along the process aren't finalised yet.
Well said!

*like removed, as I cannot post a reply with a link*

Whilst I concede that the government are still at the consultation stage, as to the payments of the RHI, the white paper that was released July 15th 2009, confirmed that the RHI will be paid on heat pumps. The white paper also confirmed that any one installing the technology will be paid Cert funding if applicable, and will be entitled to RHI as if they had installed the equipment in April 2011.
I would recommend you have a look at the official government publication for the UK renewable Energy Stratergy p. 69.
Thus, I am very keen to promote heat pumps, and the RHI.0 -
I also like heat pumps, they have a place for some situations but definitely not all.
The RHI and getting paid for using a heat pump would mean they might make sense for a lot more situations.
So I agree its a good idea for people to know about these things however I just felt the website you mentioned over egged things a bit.
Investing in this technology on the basis that you will be getting paid RHI involves an element of risk, you might end up being paid but then again you may not, nothing is finalised yet.
Sadly I feel this will go the way of grants and FITs for Solar PV. To qualify you have to pay a huge premium having 'accredited' suppliiers install equipment from a specific list of 'approved equipment'. If you haven't paid over the odds to have it installed you don't get the payments.
This seriously negates the advantage of getting the payments.
As always thorough research is required before making a decision.
I'd be careful about expecting a heat pump installed now to qualify for RHI, it may or it may not.
Looking at FITs and PV, many with PV already installed will be at a disadvantage compared to a new install once FIT is introduced. I've read of people considering decommissioning their PV and then recommissioning it as a fresh installation to qualify.0 -
As I posted in the other heat pump thread, we have just had a completely new fully funded ashp system installed the one granted for us is the 900i HeatKing http://www.heatking.co.uk/bwarmi.html water output is looking at stat on side of unit 61 deg, kingspan tank / store installed with in line 3 kw heater top up if needed and 3 kw immersion if needed, at the moment the rads take approx 10 - 15 mins to warm up, to say the new rads have been down sized from our old ones we havent noticed a difference at all, heats to 21 deg easily and we have had a frost or two where we live already, hot water is always plentyfull and at mains pressure.
Best thing weve had since sliced bread !You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
get some readings / running costs up, so we can compare, list, size of house, occupants, hot water use, where in the country etc...There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

true, I did not pick that bit up, in scotland there seems to be better grant funding for ASHP & PV, maybe it was a Warmfront or similar type by HA's or Landlords, yes it would be interesting to find out......Muckybutt?There are three types of people in this world...those that can count ...and those that can't!

Could you tell us a little about the grant you got? ie who from, how to qualify etc
We got the grant from our council via a scheme http://www.cesgroup.org/ total cost of system would have been £6800 but as we get tax credit and council tax benefit we got full funding, I believe there are grants still available in our area. We are east riding area.
Our house is a two bed terraced cottage with kitchen and bathroom on the back the fitted 5 rads with trv's and one without, 120L kingspan accumulator and the 900i unit.
Ive not done running costs personally but im told initial start up cost is approx 40pph going down to 8 - 10pph once the system has warmed up.You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
