  • Have you tried making your own? Maybe not for everyday, but I made some for Bonfire Night and they went down so well, I made another batch for New Year's eve.

    I use this recipe.

Poundstretcher do them for £1.00 as well, and we like them. The sauce is thicker than some of the value tins, and a drop of worcester sauce makes them just special.

I use value ones - I hate the gloopy sauce that Heinz beans has, really unpalatable. Much prefer the lighter sauce of the value ones. I have even recently converted my mum - and she never thought she would like value beans.

I have never found value beans to be hard?!? Maybe you had a bad batch?

The sauce is easy to thicken - just cook them for longer than usual. It thickens up quickly.
  • I'm not fussy about beans tbh, i'll eat anything - Heinz if on offer, Asda/Tesco's own brand or value.

Himself thinks we eat heinz beans. I keep Heinz tins at the front for show and hide the value ones at the back lol :rotfl:

The only ones I don't like are the sugar/salt free - they're really sweet :rotfl:

I haven't been brave enough to try the Value ones yet, though I do buy own brand.

Has anyone tried to make their own in true OS style?
  • I agree about the low sugar ones - urrgh far too sweet!

I always add a splash of Lea and Perrins to beans whilst i'm heating them too or a pinch of chilli powder :)

Branstons beans are the best! We used to be Heinz lovers but, after trying Branston, I wouldn't go elsewhere. The sauce is definitely thicker IMO.

We have reduced salt Sainsburys own... 3 for 80p, yum.
Though admitedly half the time I throw in a bit of cumin and chili powder for chili beans!
