As I described the Rear Guard will not repel the flies from around the hutch, but will prevent the real problem of flies - flystrike.

Cleaning the hutch for faeces and urine every day, checking the rabbits bums and not leaving old food around all help reduce the flies. I would not advise using any fly repellent near your rabbits as most are exceptionally toxic and would cause health issues.

My friend had hutch rabbits and in summer she cleaned the hutch twice a day, and fed fresh food 3 times a day so that they had little and often and old fruit and veg wasn't left around for flies to eat.

I had my rabbit six years and every summer was allowed to play in the garden (which had lots of plants etc) - I did read that rabbits "know" what not to eat so tend to stay away from anything that will harm them but if that does happen and you know they have been eating a certain plant and got sick you should take that plant with you to the vets.

I think chicken wire is a good idea to fence off plants but dont forget.... rabbits can jump pretty high:D

I need to buy a fairly large rabbit hutch for my gf's rabbit. I've looked in pets at home and the quality is really poor and still expensive. Need to find a good old english shope that I can get one from...?

    Any ideas??

    Thanks

We got ours from Ebay, but had seen this model in a Garden centre but was too expensive at £200! Decent size and very good quality wood, they live in a shed mostly but when it's nice weather this is their other place!

On Ebay we paid approx £90 i think came in a massive flat pack but was dead easy and done in about an hour max. That was a year ago and still in great condition - which ever hutch you get make sure it's as large as possible.

Not much advice but. You could try a freecycle website - someone might be giving one away x

I would contact a joiner or carpenter in your area. That's what we did and we got hutches just the right size at a good price!

My friend is selling a load of hutches on ebay as she's had new ones built. They are 5 foot ones! Suitable for French Lops, Continental Giants etc. Has smaller ones too...

    Hi,

If it is not too late consider a child's play house, you can get then quite cheap in the sales or discount days in most DIY stores.

I have 3 rabbits and they have sufficient room in the 'house' when it is wet and they don't want to go out.

You can add 'shelves' for addition space and rabbits love jumping up to different levels.

Also, the childs house is very easy to clean - much easier than a hutch!
