Given that I have just had a letter from NR asking for more identification docs (something that I have never had to do before) I would recommend if at all possible that you open this 'bond' (don't want to get involved in THAT discussion :)' at a branch.

They want a certified copy of my passport and someone is going to charge me £10 for that! And they say that they will keep the copy so you can't even get it back to use again...

I am off to my nearest branch where the NR bloke on the phone promises that they will make a certified copy for free.. though if that is true I will soon find out.

When opening an account in a Branch they see the original documents so costs them nothing to certify fact theve seen the original.

A Post Office would certify that a copy of an original thats been made is a true copy, from experience a post office wouldnt charge a fee for this.

Personally ive always sent original driving licence + original bills etc when opening new accounts and none has ever gone astray, Financial Providers often post original documents back Recorded Delivery and sometimes Special Delivery.

    Ring them up.

I haven't had my paperwork either, but rang them and they gave me the account reference over the phone.

They don't normally do this, but as the account is closing they made an exception.

Yep done that while you were posting. Got account No.

Important - They will accept funds until next Friday 8th February - IF the account is open.

    regards

    Indeed the NR website says

Due to popular demand the Fixed Rate Access Bond (Issue 1) is no longer available.
A new issue is coming soon and details will be added to this site shortly.

Who said that? It's so annoying to get contradictory info from every NR staff you ask, don't they KNOW the exact deposit situation?

If you have got your account No. you can transfer money to your Bond without waiting for your welcome pack.

It is annoying isn't it? That's not what I was told either, basically it was CHAPS today or nothing.

Decisions like this should be made when the account is launched with clear advice posted on the website.

I spoke to an adviser who checked with his manager.

Obviously I cannot guarantee that info is correct, except if I have a problem I have his name and time I spoke to him;) .
