Having been directed here via Martin's Thread alert, I've spent an interested half hour scanning through. My No Compromises are:

    Marmite
    Free Range eggs
    Free Range meat
    Local butter

that's about it! And I'll even compromise on the butter if I have to :)

Being someone into homesteading and having crafters as friends (knitters/carpenters/potters - you name it!) we pretty much make do on what we can make for ourselves, when I must buy I get supermarket value products - they products are usualy the same as the standard ones just different packaging. Somethings I do need to get named brands for wines (but these needn't be expensive £5 can get you a beaut of a wine from Tesco) and tea for this household.

I buy shampoo from my hairdresser. Because it's salon quality, only a small amount is needed per wash - about the size of 5p piece - so although it is reasonably pricey in outlay, a bottle lasts six months so it's really good value for money and my hair always smells as though I've just been to the hairdressers!
Wins July/August '09: £10 Cheque; E45 Endless Moisture Range; Avon Lip Gloss; £250 Fat Face Vouchers; £5 Chiquito Voucher
Thanks to all who post comps - it really is appreciated!

Proper coffee for me, and weetabix for the boy. He's not a big eater and weetabix had the better of certain nutritional values.

'Im indoors will only drink PG Tips tea. The rest of the time we're quite flexible and will try own brands/cheaper versions.

Ariel. While I can wash coloureds in Sainsburys own quite happily, I can't quite get over the fact that an own brand might not get whites white.

And Parazone. I did try own brand thick bleach when I first realised the extent of my debt, but it just doesn't seem to do the trick, I can't even use Domestos, so when Parazone is on offer, I get a trolley full!

    Hi BRG :)
I was brought up in a household where Sainsburys brown label tea (loose leaf) was the only tea ever drunk ;)

I love President btter, too :)

But as for the sausages - I personally avoid 70% meat, and aim for 90%+ where possible. I don't think a sausage needs that much to pad it out and bind it together... If I find premium supermarket sausages yellow-stickered, I'll stock up the freezer.

I get particularly annoyed with brands which call themselves "Butcher's Choice" or similar, while being only 55% meat

In general if I am going to have sausages at all (which isn't often) I will buy them from a proper butcher. I go to one of the stalls on Borough Market for most of mine, as they are gorgeous and do a discount on multiple packs.

Regrettably, a very long-established sausage butcher in my area has recently closed all its branches :(

Its not that difficult to make your own. You just need a grinder and you can get one of those cheap enough to fit a kenwood chef. Have a look on ebay. As you are already buying expensive sausages you'll soon get your money back.

I love the taste of homemade and you know exactly whats gone into them, no earholes or any other holes....

Ah, but I don't own a Kenwood chef (or indeed any mixer/food processor... though it's on my wish list) and although I buy expensive sausages, I only buy ANY sausages about twice a year :o

But I see where you're coming from...
