I've read the post twice but I'm still not sure if that list is for a month or a week.It looks like a lot for a week but not enough for a month in this house IYSWIM.
I think this is the "danger" (if that's the right expression?) when someone takes the risk of posting their shopping list/menu plan/expenses. It's very subjective because there are always factors that aren't immediately obviously. E.G. size of family, locality, availability of resources.
Prices can vary depending on location; prices can vary depending on the shops/resources available; prices can vary (quite considerably sometimes) depending on portion sizes. And let's be really honest, portions vary depending on whether you are feeding toddlers, tweens, adults or teens! A recipe "for four" could well be a recipe to feed 12 toddlers or even interpreted as a recipe for 1 if you are feeding a teen:rotfl:

Clearly states its for a month. I think your family is larger than SK's??? That could be why it may not seem quite enough IYO

Well I must be thicker than I look Queenie. I did say I was confused about the weekly/monthly aspect but that in no way means I felt that it wouldn't be enough for Sammy's family (in my opinion or otherwise.)
If you reread my post it clearly states that I felt it wouldn't be enough IN MY HOUSE.
My post was in no way intended as a criticism of Sammykaye and I doubt she took it that way.
Don't wish to hijack the thread so once again I'll say as I did before....
Well done Sammy. :T0 -

Well done Sammy. :TNor did I take your post as a criticism of SK! (Did anyone?
)
If you read my post once again, you will see that I clarified (purely and simply) that SK had already stated it was for a month
Of course I read your point about "in my house".Nor did I interpret any critisism behind it! (why would I?)
My post was simply to state that threads such as these can cause confusion *if* one doesn't take into account a) the number of people being fed; b) the location; c) the resources and d) portion control (I don't believe you mentioned all of those?) So my post was in no way simply or fully a response to your own
It was a broader view altogether
I do apologise if my post has touched a nerve somehow (I'm not sure why) but it was simply part in response to your own query about the weekly/monthly thing and then I moved on to express my opinion (which is what people do in forums).
I have no problem with your views/opinions HJ. In fact, I feel saddened that you took my generalised comments so personally. I was merely commenting on a thread; I only specifically answered your own query regarding the weekly/monthly issue and made no judgement on your intentions, implications or otherwise
However, I have been a member of these forums long enough to know that, sometimes, these kinds of threads can become rather unpleasant when they are cast under scrutiny, as a couple of our MSE members know only too well! I merely offered my opinion as to why one persons solution was not necessarily a "fix all, for all" solution.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hello all
Well bowl me over with a feather - heath ledger has died. am so shocked and especially as hes only 28! how sad. He wa a bloody good actor too.
Anyway back to the subject...............
Thanks for all the positive messages. I will get working on my meal plan soon - the shop i work in has been closed for refurbishments so am having to attend lots of meetings about the new items in store this week - its driving me stupid and i keep meaning to make my soup and still havent get round to it so 'droppy' veg is an understatement  - im hoping ill be able to do it today after my meeting is over, but then i have to go and collect little one so fingers crossed i can find a dvd for him to sit and watch and then make it and freeze.
HariboJunkie - I in no way took your post as criticism, dont panic chick. I do have a small family and my bf i only really have to feed dinner to and any snacks he fancies of an evening which is pretty helpful in stretching everything especially the budget as it really only means i have me and ben on a constant basis to feed, and yes its for a month
Queenie - I agree with what you said about confusion being caused and also the criticisms that can occur when posting something like this which is why its taken me so long to do it - Ive had other members been asking me since october last year so decided to bite the bullet and put it out there. I appreciate the criticisms in a way though as it gives me good leverage to be even more determined to suceed with it - and not to mention when you do get a thread like this alot of useful information and recipes and tips turn up which you may not already know so although you can get criticised you can also benefit too in my opinion.:p
Juliapenguin - yeah dont worry - Ive fallen off the OS wagon a few times to begin with - but you always eventually end up coming back again. My biggest downfall is when bf is in a good mood he decides he'll be helpful and take me shopping  bless him - he has good intentions but the oh cna we get this?' or things mysteriously appearign in the trolley drive me nuts so i learnt long ago to do it on the computer!!!!
twink - my mother in law has wild rhubarb growing at the bottom of the garden she nearly always cuts it back and makes rhubarb crumble for us, which either gets frozen or eaten by bf straight away. She was going to give it to us to transplant into our garden but we decided it was better off up there - its been growign there about 15 years now and she keeps cutitng it back and it keeps regrowing so we just leaving it where it seems happiest!Time to find me again0 -
Sammy if you can then get as much rhubarb as poss like i said it freezes so easily, wipe, chop and bag and will last well into winter for crumble, sponges and stewed with ginger ale0

hi, sammy i was wondering if you could write out your hob nob recipe, just starting to try and cut down on shopping bills and going to do my first budgeting month in feb and they sound great, im sure my kids would love themDe-clutter this year 10kg:j
2014 start credit card debt £4,775.42:eek:Amount paid this year £1500 -
mumrus - I make the famous 'twinks hobnobs'. They are amazing - i will warn you though once you've tried them you will have to be quick in future or they will barely make it out the oven before they are scoffed!! well this happens in my house anyway
i have to slyly make them whilst bf and son are out and hide them away so they dont scoff the lot
If ever you need it again its in the indexed collection under twinks hobnobs.
here is her recipe (nicked off anotehr thread!)
this is the recipe i use
8oz sr flour
8oz sugar
8oz porridge oats
8oz margarine
1tbsp golden syrup
1tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp bic soda
mix flour, oats and sugar, melt marg, syrup and water in a pan stir in bic soda and add to dry mix, mix well, make smallish balls and put on greased tray and flatten slightly with a fork, 180oc for 15 mins, cool on the tray, you just want them golden in oven not brown
hope you enjoy them mumsrus and thanks you twink!!! they are yummy!!!Time to find me again0 -
