wow sammy , thanks for that.

    your a real inspiration .

you make it look so easy to eat so well on so little. i guess my prob is , i love spending money. and if i got money there i will spend it. ( i won't go into debt but i mean if i go over my shopping budget i dont worry) so i think i need to be more strick with myself.

as for fruit we prob go through 1 bag of apples , 1 bag of banana and satsumas evry 3 or 4 days. tori and ryan are huge fruit eaters and i make loads of smooties etc. hubby eats apples like they going out of fashion.

Great thread Sammy, well done for all your hard work and inspiration. Your family must be so proud of you.

Just a couple of things though - you didn't include in your list loo rolls, bath/shower soap (or gel), loo cleaner (perhaps you use vinegar for that?). Would those put another fiver on your budget?

Sorry, only nit-picking :o . It shows I read your post thoroughly though ;) .
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

No dont worry - I like it when people ask.

Although this is quite odd - since ive had Ben my little one i have hardly been able to use any soap/shower gel/bath smellies at all and shampoo makes my face swell and is very uncomfortable so i cant use anything bar baby shampoo so it saves us a fortune. If we do get anything its as a treat (might get a bubble bath for bf but even then only he uses it becuase it drives my Xma crazy and im in agony then).

As for toilet roll I have the cupboard of my bathroom chocked full fo the discounted cheap vlaue stuff form tesco - for soem odd reason i seem to have this thing that i like to know theres toilet roll in the house - i have been know to go to tesco and leave witha trolley of JUST toilet rolls. I dont know why - it always seems to be the thing i inevitably forget when i shop so i bulk brought it! There has to easily be 40 toilet rolls in there so i wont be needing any for a while yet!

Like i said everything is cleaned with vinegar and bicarb of soda and a microfibre brush (or the toilet brush in this case). I find it safer, if ben gets vinegar in his eye - ok it might sting and he wont be very happy but if he gets bleech in his eye it could be a lot worse.

Hi Sammy...Well done for getting your spending under control.

I've read the post twice but I'm still not sure if that list is for a month or a week. :o It looks like a lot for a week but not enough for a month in this house IYSWIM. :o
  • I'm very inspired and impressed! I'm a mature student too (like someone earlier in the thread) and I've made a real mess of the last few months, spending like mad on food but not earning and having to pay tuition fees. I'm nearly twice your age so I should be ashamed of myself... I've just started looking on the OS board again after a few months' being too busy, and I have so enjoyed reading your thread. As so many others have said, you're an inspiration. Thank you for all your posts!

great thread Sammy, well done, you mentioned growing veg, i grow cut and come again lettuce in a tray, you get lots of leaves and you keep getting more also if you have a farmfoods near you they do cheap but good bags of frozen veg and fruit, apples and rhubarb

speaking of rhubarb when mine wasnt growing well i put a ticket in asda asking if anyone had spare and i got plenty, lots of people have it growing but dont use it, wipe, chop and freeze and it lasts ages, just remembered kyle asked on freecycle for some and got two lots
  • :TJust wanted to say thank you for the time and effort you have put into posting your shopping list - it's really inspiring!

:T :T :T Well done Sammy, you sound like you have the baking and cooking thing well in hand. My 3 year old loves baking, his favourite is shortbread at the moment. He doesn't eat many sweets or sweet things (his choice), so another favourite is to roll out pastry scraps and cut them into gingerbread men shapes which I bake and he then decorates with "writing icing". He then eats them instead of biscuits.

I wish I'd known at 23 what you do. It's taken me nearly twice as long as that to "get a grip" in the kitchen.
