Hi,
I stumbled across this post from another website.
I can't even spend £100 a month on food etc, and there's just me and the mog!
Still I am determined to try... pay day on Monday, so will have a go this month.
Is it better to shop monthly/fortnightly/weekly/daily in your opinion?
Could be good to help lose weight too as I am on a diet.
Good luck me, and thanks for your inspiriation. Have just spent an hour reading thru your stuff. How do you do it!0 -
Glad to see this thread is still going strong.
Cant wait to see your updated lists whenever you get the chance, however your life is so busy i do not know how you find the time.
Still an inspiration!!!0 -
I just wanted to say a very big thank you to the OP, your shopping list and menu plans are an absolute inspiration.
I have just joined the May grocery challange with a target of £240 a month but having read this thread I will certainly be aiming to spend much less.

This thread has inspired me to get off my butt and do more cooking from scratch and keeping to the meal plan that I wrote out a few weeks ago.
I think I have underestimated the pleasure (if that's the word) of working hard to provide the best you can for your family. No doubt it's very hard work but as someone who is inherently lazy this motivates me to do more around the house, in the kitchen etc.
Am aiming to cut down my grocery bills to £50 a week so not quite a thrifty as Sammy but need to learn to walk before I can runI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

just wondering how you are getting on now that there have been some changes.

Hi Becca
Yeah we are plodding along well. We ave been trying to tighten our budget even more lately - especially with the prices rises that have been going up.
i am glad to report though that we dont seem to be doign too badly we are still pretty low food budget wise but last month we really ran the cupboards/firdge/freezer right down so the next big shop i had to do was £65 and that was nothing different form what i would have normally brought but i seemed to need alot more becuase there was nothing in the cupboards.
We have added an extra £10 to our budget and are looking at changing a few odds and ends - boyfriend wants to do more healthy eating but we are tryign to grow our own stuff this year - we have tomatoes going at the minute and have planted out spring onions, carrots, swede and onions so we will see how they go - I did have cucumbers but i let them over grow in teh seedlings tub and lost the lot, my sprouts had the same fate im afraid too.
but we are ok - if i can find the reciept for my last shop ill psot my shoppign list up again.Time to find me again0 -
Hi sammy_kaye18 - I have read this thread before and think it's brilliant and I too was wondering how you are getting on now that there have been so many price increases. Found your thread so inspiring when I first joined MSE and am now on the GC thread, have always cooked and baked from scratch but now bulking out meals and looking out for whoopsies and also enjoying all the new recipes I have picked up from here. Thanks again and good luck."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

Hi All
I seem to have had a minor blip of a slip lately.
I was sat today doing my finances to basically see if i could afford my dogs insurance comfortably (thanks to all on that thread btw) and figured out i have a fair bit coming in - about £720 a month in benefits and wages. well it turns out that I pay out £490 (that would be icluding the dogs insurance) so i have about £235 left over. WHERE???? The last few months we have been literally down to our last pennies come pay day - so i suspect that ihave been helping out boyfriend a bit too much or havent been able to resist Mr T whoopsie sectiona little bit too much
Need some help ideas nad inspiration to help me get myself back on the MSE wagon - any ideas??
I already have little money bags celotaped inside a kitchen cupboard and each month i take out hte money i need and put it into the correct little baggy so i know that it is covered but i must jsut spend the rest on rubbish!
Im hoping to make a price book now too and am going to set myself some strict limits - im hoping to save all my extra cash this month as i do have debts that id like to get paid off quickerTime to find me again0 -
