Sammy you are an inspiration.
If I even had an ounce of your will power and brains I probably wouldnt be in the mess I find myself now.
On reading your thread I have vowed to follow your example more if not only forme and the situation but to teach my boys a much better and in a way healthier way of life.
As for twinks hobnobs they are a favourite in this house and I havnt bought any shop bought biscuits since. The kids love making them with me and I know whats in them.
Thanks xxAlthough I get lonely  as a single mother there are always two smiling angels ready to give me the biggest hug in the world. Love you babies :grouphug:

hi there sammy
I've just read this whole thread and can't believe I hadn't spotted it before! I am hanging my head in shame right now as if you can do it - then I can do it too!
You are an inspiration and I am off to make twinks hobnobs as we speak, followed quickly by starting this months challenge - to cut our shopping bill. Currently spending about £250-£300 at the moment for just two off us. So taking baby steps, going to cut this down to £200 max and then work downwards from there.....that's the plan anyway!
have a great weekend and congratulations on your post of the month winnings!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
the hob nobs are in the oven as we speak - i halved the mixture amount and still have made loads! there is just me and DH so we didn't need too many!
will post with results!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I felt so inspired by sammy's thread I thought I would show you a picture of my efforts:
edit: I have tried making this picture smaller but my usual method doesn't seem to be working - apologies!!!
second batch due out of the oven any minute!!!!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
hi,
I was just wondering, your shopping is delivered monthly, ho wdo you store your fruit and veg to make it last as long as poss?
I came across this tip to keep celery fresh for weeks is to wrap it in tin foil and place in salad drawer of the fridge.Penny xxx

Hi All
Yeah im still here. Apologys for my lack of posting i thought the thread had died and vanished into the abyss that is the MSE archives. I am still here though although have changed my shopping technique a little bit - not price wise - just now I do a shop every 2 weeks instead of every month - i was finding that i have things left over from one month and then to restock with the same thing was just wasting money in unneccesary areas. Plus bouyfriend and myself are back on diets nwo so we have much mroe fruit and veg now and not as much baking things so we are less tempted by snacky things ive made and the fruit bowl gets raided instead
Also fingers crossed i will be due that second freezer soon - yes it still hasnt arrived so im hoping to save up some money between now and then so i will be able to buy some extra products and do some batch cooking for the freezer to get it started when it does arrive - god familys - such pains arent they.
We've also had a few more fishy editions to the house so they are happy at the minute and sadly a passing away fo my smallest turtle - of all things she drowned - how ironic (got wedged down the side of her rock becuase the other too fat ones pushed her down there and we didnt notice in time) so pet food is still the same basically.
Im also hoping that with aprils challenge - mine will start 15th/16th as this is pay day - that i will start shopping round more as i now have an aldi within walking distance of the nearest bus stop in town so i might venture there for a few items and experiment this month to see if i can get things cheaper and the budget down yet again.
I am still here and plannign my food budget again well menu plan and shopping list so ill update you on how i doTime to find me again0 -

Hi All
I will at some point whizz throught he thread and thank you all for your contirbutions but dont know me bum form me elbow this week ive had so much going on
Emweaver - Yes we do tend to eat alot fo the same meals - I have Sitophobia which makes eating anything new/ different very very stressful for me, even getting to go out for a meal with my boyfriend can trigger panic attacks and it gets very upsetting for me and any others with me. Also something as simple as going out (ok not very os) for fish and chips can distress me so much because i dont know exactly whats in it. (want an example - im sat here eating a shop brought roll that my sister dropped off on her visit this morning and im freaking out to the point that my face is hot, im flustered and having heart palpitations - the lettuce , cucumber and onion in the roll are fine and although i know basic ingredients for the roll itself its still worrying me incase theres an unknown added ingredient) the saddest thing is its a basic bog standard white roll.
Which is why being OS and making it all myself is better for me. Im getting there trying new things (recently tried plain white rice for the first time in 7 years! )but its very hard to do and god bless her my mother in law is a saint. She kind of understands it and helps me wth it as much as she canTime to find me again0
