Hi
Yeh true re. what they are dealing hehee
But otherwise I am not trying to stir anything, just putting my own perspective forward, I am not trying to convert anyone to my own views, sorry if you misinterpreted my intention!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Just my tuppence worth re the wanted ads - I use freecycle a lot - I like it when people post wanted ads, it reminds me of stuff I have up in the loft that I wouldn't bother to go and get down otherwise (it would only have to go back up if no one replied to my offered ad).
Also, this year I'm trying to get as many of my things 2nd hand rather than buying new, so if i'm planning on buying something, I tend to post a wanted ad just in case someone has it lying around.
I too think its fine if someone is going to sell stuff at a bootfair so long as they say that is what they are going to do - at least someone else will be getting use from it rather than it going to landfill.0 -
I too, was a bit confused by the OP. I see now, from another poster, that maybe the "auction site" was referring to Freecycle (which isn't an auction site, so I thought they were talking about something else).
I understand that people have had troubles with poor moderators, etc., but I absolutely love Freecycle. I've used it in two countries even. When I moved to the UK, I offered up a bunch of stuff on my local group. After arriving, I was very happy to find two groups near home. I've received (and then re-Freecycled later) a older computer (and a desk), some kitchen goods, a small chest and a slow cooker. We gave away a microwave, some new but poor-fitting shoes, an old model digital camera, some books, etc.
I enjoy the fact that I can save things from the tip that would otherwise have no place to go, like our broken food processor, posters from the newspaper or used jiffy envelopes.
I've also been pleased with the occasional relationship that goes beyond just collecting the Freecycled item. The person who gave me the slow cooker helped with some tips/recipes. Another person and I chatted about vegetarianism. Still another person, I helped with some computer repair.
I know there are some folks who are just going to be buttmunches, but I've enjoyed a small sense of community that the group has.

On the cheeky "Wanted" theme, ours had a request for a cement mixer today!
"Desperately needed" and "just in case someone has one going spare"
Like you do of course...you just want to shout at someone like that - THEN GO AND HIRE ONE YOU MUPPET!!!!
Anyway, I didn't do that, but I had a quick look in the cupboards and under the stairs just in case we did have one lying about that I'd forgotten about...0 -
...a small chest and a slow cooker...
were you tempted to exchange them for a large chest (oooo-er matron) and a fast cooker?...We gave away...some new but poor-fitting shoes...
Aaah, the true spirit of Freecycle - help to cripple someone elses' feet!

Heh. The shoes were only poor-fitting on me, silly.

I want someone out there to give me a house!! Someone out there is rich enough to be able to give me one of theirs............Believe me, I am serious. I live in a very nice council flat but would love to have a place to call my own. As I cannot work due to a disability I will never get a mortgage.
Please someone....Be the first!!! Thanks..........................Ian0
