A big thanks to whoever suggeated using ordinary flour in the breadmaker - it definitely works! No more bread flour for me now, half price bread, makes it even cheaper than a value loaf! Next step is begging fresh yeast from Tesco (a friend used to be a baker there and he said they really do just hand it out if you ask) and seeing if that works as well.0

I've been read this thread with interest - me too has been tempted for quite a while to buy one.
Can I ask what basic ingredients do you put in for a loaf? just ord flour and water & yeast? and does it really work out cheaper than buying one? say: buying the cheapest flour? or do they just taste a lot better and not necessarily cost cheaper?0 -
You also need to add sugar salt and oil - and in a particular order - with some you put the yeast in fisrt and with mine you put the yeast in last.
My lot will not eat shop bought bread now and love the home made pizza dough , bread rolls and home made jam."This site is addictive!"

For basic white bread you need
water
flour (I use cheapo plain flour at 26p a bag which will make three large loaves)
oil
sugar
salt
yeast
It is more expensive than buying economy bread but much nicer and cheaper than buying in-store bakery bread. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

Does the jam take long to do?
(I noticed the morphy richards fastbake in my tesco last nite was £45).0 -
I have been reading some reviews on the panasonic and the morphy richards fast bake.
The downside seems to be that the panasonic bakes small loaves - is this correct? and it doesnt have a window?
but everyone seems to recommend the panasonic on here.0
