  • hm has anyone heard of the site, DoingSomething?
It seems super fun - promises to 'take the awkward out of online dating' by suggesting a great list of date ideas. For anyone based in London who is active and who enjoys exploring the city, I'd recommend it.
I'm also on Guardian Soulmates, Lovestruck and My Single Friend - these haven't worked for me yet but I've done a few DoingSomething dates and the people on the site have all been very fun-loving!

OKCUPID (now owned by the people who own Match.com still free at the mo)

I am in the process of importing (can't think of a better term due to the forms and the fees to clear customs... sorry UKBA) my soon to be wife.

We first communicated on OKC and then met in Prague (she is Russian and yes I know Prague is not in Russia we were on Holiday) .

This will be a blog of the wedding... eventually... hopefully... assuming she clears customs!

There are some jokers on OKC as with all free sites but have made some nice friends and communicated with some lovely people all over the world on this site.

As with all such sites be careful and be choosy!
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

TBH I found the reverse to be the case (POF is not known as shag central around here for nothing!) I suppose it depends on a lot of the factors.

It should also be noted that apart from the odd one or two (some very odd) on OKC I was chatting to non UK residents (not by design) and on POF they were exclusively UK.

Are all dating sites owned by one company? They all look the bloody same. I registered with newstartdating.co.uk and it feels exactly like the rest?

Any site run by whitelabeldating should be avoided at all costs as they are renown for this practice

That's the truth - and sometimes you won't even know. If you're thinking of signing up to any but the really well known ones like Match.com, Datingdirect, or POF, watch the address bar at the top of your browser (where the www bits go) as you click to sign up, and it may briefly show whitelabeldating before it goes to naughty.con or wherever.

ANYTHING which involves that outfit is a scam – fake members, fake messages, 100% rip off.

  • Not that I'm a user of dating sites but I have a couple of tips picked up from perusing the Internet. there is a facebook group - search for dating on facebook - they have around 1100 members as at 9th Feb 2013. This seems to be a good idea, as most people have a facebook account and you can find people easily. It's supposed to be for people youknow but what a good idea to have a groupwhere people looking for dating can join, and maybe find a mate that way. The only downside is that it's international, so there are a lot of posts from 3rdish world countires - people looking for a ticket to the UK. So sift those out and it's worth it for free dating. I'd say that if a dating site is FREE then it's only worth what you pay - nothing. ;) That make using facebook a better bet.
