Competitions Discussion Thread Part 4

I agree. I'm also finding it frustrating that competitions are being moved into 'game over' before they are actually over!
Personally I think that as a forum we should recognise and accept that people like to enter competitions in different ways.
For those who enter the comps as they are posted and keep up to date, it may not matter that comps are being moved early.
However, there are also many people who do not keep up to date. You know, those same people who've found the 'comps ending' posts a real help.
Well, I've tried using the alternative method suggested of sorting the forum by date. Not very successfully. Only a handful of comps showed up for the next day. I guess I should have looked in Game Over.
As board guides are suggesting this method as an alternative to the 'comps ending' posts, they need to leave the comps on the board until they are actually over.
If that means the comps stay on a few days after closing date, so what? at least people wouldn't miss them that way.
'Game over' should mean the competition has closed, not closing in a day or two.Best win: Sept 2008 LG steam washing machine

Well said Catz
Personally - I really don't have time to mess about in Game Over - there are plenty on the board to keep me occupied!
Besides most comps are on here for @1 month or however long they run before being 'gameovered' so theres plenty of time.
Why do people (not a pop at the OP - just a recent general observation) seem to be becoming obessed with entering as many comps as possible? What ever happened to it being fun???? There's always another comp coming up so if I miss one so what!
I have really noticed a huge change in the dynamic on this board, what used to be friendly and fun has descended into bickering and 'trying to get it organised'I thought it was already!

I agree, I've noticed this too, more & more so.
I'm going to throw a spanner in the works here & probably get chased off the board forever, but I don't think the £2008 for 2008 thing is helping. It may well be a bit of fun, but IMO, whether people realise it or not, they're putting pressure on themselves to hit this target & that means relentlessly entering comps.
There, I've said it.
I purposely didn't join in with this as I want to enjoy comping, it's fun for me, I don't want to be constantly fretting about enetering as many as I can to make £2008.Tightwad. And proud of it!

I felt that too - the challenge was meant like the first - a bit of fun, but now I 'hear' constant comments about how much stuff is worth, how many they can enter etc etc. It's getting the MSE comp board a bad name.
I joined very late (as I didn't want to be left out) buthaven't bothered following it as it (for some) is just too competitive.

If I get time I'll go to Loquax where there are long lists under closing dates. Most of the time I haven't got time - it's enough entering things from here. However, if I do go there and find a comp I'd like to enter it's easy enough to google an answer or to check here with the url.
Personally I think the board guides do a great job and three cheers for them and the hard work they do, unpaid and often unthanked. OK, like any of us they can make mistakes, they are only human, thank God. However, they deserve bouquets and not brickbats for their hard work."Every day when I wake up I thank the Lord I'm Welsh" Cerys Matthews0 -
Ok
I typed a reply out before but pressed the wrong button and deleted it by mistake, the gist of what I said was that I did sign up for the challenge but am not bothering with it anymore, I prefer to just keep a list of what I have won etc now, its hard putting a value on things....
Also it seems like people are entering for prizes they have no use for or cant use and are having to give them away, in such cases other people who really wanted to win are missing out
I dont have a problem with them moving to game over early - the board guides give up their time, they are volunteers and do a great job so I dont think they should be knocked (if thats the right phrase!). There are plenty more comps on here and its not the end of the world if you miss a few comps
I agree the atmosphere has gone downhill fast recently and I am seriously thinking of migrating to another site or even just lurking here as I feel the atmosphere here is putting me off and there are people bossing eachother about, telling eachother how to do things, the site used to be fun when I first started coming on here, everyone was so friendly - what happened?

Oh I really like the challenge, don't really see it as a challenge, but I liked the one last year too
I just like to keep a little tab on what I've won and the £2008 thing helps that.
I put myself under pressure to enter stuff but that's just me, I like to keep myself occupied.
I like to keep up the comps in the evening and post a few for my karma, and if I have spare time I search for them too but mostly I like the little chats and the PMs to people who I meet with similar issues or stuff going on.
I have tended to steer clear now when conversations are going on and on cause I can't be bother but I'm feeling a little manic so that's my 2p worth
Think the BGs are great. I believe they spend more time on here than on the freebie board (by the looks of things) and they shouldn't feel under pressure to do stuff on our behalf for the purpose of keeping us organised. We should do that ourselves
If you go to the rear end of the Regular comps you can get a feel for comping life in the early days - 1 poster, not a lot of thanks, no chat .. ..... and so the board has developed, but lets not ruin it.
If you enter and you're lucky then you're lucky0 -
I wanted to ask if anyone can point out where I'm going wrong. I haven't won a thing since I joined.
I joined the £2008 in 2008 but I've given up on that already, I'd just like to win something.
I wonder if the e-mail ones are the big ones where I'm going wrong, I only give the info asked for, I don't use colour or do anything fancy.
Does anyone have any tips please?
Just something to make me win something so I feel my efforts are worthwhile.

Approx how many comps do you enter each day?
With the email comps you only need to include the details they ask for, they certainly don't expect colours and patterns etc!

I probably enter around 20 - 30 a day, sometimes less but not often.
I only enter the ones where I actually really want the prize, not always big stuff but often books and dvds.
