Out of date stuff

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.
I recently bought some chocolate in Whittard and after myself and kids eating it I realised this was 3 months out of date.
I emailed them and they offered a refund on this - Were they not supposed to offer some sort of compensation as well?
I will also be contacting the relevant trading standards department -
what would you suggest I do?

It will only be a "use by" date on the cholcolate not life threatening if you eat it months afterwards
What sort of compensation do you want ?0 -
Well I don't know if I am entitled to anything hence I asked.
I was expecting a coupon or something to spend in store.0 -
If you've eaten it with no ill effects & it hasn't inconvenienced you , i don't see what you need to be compensated for.
You've got your money back!0 -

When I used to work in Asda (about 8 years ago), we were told that if trading standards found a product out of date on a shelf then the store would be fined £1,000 per unit!
Stores ought to be more careful when checking dates, as it is negligent not to do so. When I was pregnant I bought some special vitamins, and when I got home and checked I found that they were out of date by about two months, I was not happy!
Whether it is chocolate or not it should not be sold out of date, especially by months! You have a right to be annoyed, and at least expect an apology and a freebie, it is good customer service!0 -
To be honest your on to a winner here! you got your moneyback and got to eat the chocolate. So there is your compensation - Free chocolate - After all it could not have been to bad since you ate it all before you noticed it was past the best before date. If it was a use by date then it would have been a whole lot different.Live each day like it's your last - One day you will be right:beer:0
