Well, it's all over for the HD DVD format now Toshiba are due to announce in the next couple of days that they're bowing out of the race & stopping production & closing factories so just remember that things that might seem like a bargain may not be... Unless you want to have the latest 4-track or betamax then blu-ray is the only format to go for in HD.......

Toshiba's President has confirmed the rumour; Toshiba is withdrawing from making HD-DVD players and recorders.

Toshiba will continue to supply retailers with machines until the end of March this year (presumably from stock). After that, Toshiba will continue to provide technical support to the estimated one million people worldwide who own HD DVD players.
A number of studios, including Universal, Paramount and DreamWorks, signed up to produce movies in HD DVD, but Toshiba's withdrawal is expected to reduce the number films available in the format.

I woukd think there is a line in the small print of the contract in the deal with the film studios that will allow them to put films on the BluRay format if HD DVD went bottom up!

Otherwise the film studios would loose a money stream of income.

Will be intresting now how the promotion and cost of BluRay is carried forward from now on

Pity the 2 formats couldn't have coexisted giving us lot more choice!

the form was with dvd player, we think offer ended 31st Jan, we are still awaiting these though as they were out of stock.

Just had a brain wave as this player has gone down to £77 on amazon, they have a price promise that if a product goes down within 30 days that amazon can refund the difference, so my hubby has e-mailed them to ask for this back.

Voyager 7 who posted the Amazon reduction previously to enlighten others to the cash-back possibilty, did actually get his refund, and so have others. Looks like I missed out, cos the answer I required got buried in the Format Wars. :rolleyes:
