  • that is brilliant!
  • I glued a 50p on the floor near the brew machine where i work with Araldite when i was on a late shift, by the time the next shift came in it was stuck fast and you should have seen the shifty looks people gave before trying to pick it up or chip away at it with their shoes.

My dad works for the council, and one day he had to trim some bush or something, he found a wallet, sopping wet, caked in mud, covered in god knows what else (thank god for those council gloves :S) he found £200 in it, no cards, no ID. So OBVIOUSLY he pocketed it, and my mum whipped out the hairdryer at home, end result, crispy yet usable monies.

With respect, the correct step would have been to hand it in to the police station and hope that no one claimed it in 3 months.

My guess is that the person who lost it may have been the victim of a prank or a mugging, where the muggers missed the notes, or some other form of attack. Or he could have just been drunk.

This money could have been desparately missed by someone needing to put food on the table for their family. I know because I like most have been in a situation where being £200 short has caused me grief.

Or it could have been a hiding point for drug money, in which case the owner would never have claimed it back.

This last para reminds me of a story within the Leicestershire Police force where someone found a bag full of mixed currency. There was some £30ks worth. He handed it in to the police station where it sat awaiting someone to claim it. He then collected it and became its legal owner 3 months later when no one collected it. The police put it down to a failed insurance scam or drug money - hence the owner wasn't going to be daft enought to see if it had been handed in.

From my owne experiences, and those from Islandman, the best thing to do is to hand money lost in shops to the police.
