            Info for those who smoke...
Quite a few years ago I used to work for a Wholesaler who sold ciggies, my understanding (info given from the company reps) is that Tobacco companies like Gallaher, Imperial etc have many different brands, however it is so costly for them to change the composition of cigarette tobacco for each brand that is the filter that changes, not the tobacco inside it.
For example Sovereign, Mayfair, Dorchester & Stirling ( hope it's ok to put the names in???) are all made by the same company and the baccy is likely to be the same but with different filters. Not sure how much that will change the taste so it might be worth trying a packet of your non-usual brand if you can save some pennies... I don't buy value loo roll or kitchen roll as I find them a flase economy as they don't last last as long. I do buy own brand though, unless a branded one is on offer.
Ditto own brand crisps, in my experience, although some of the more snacky things can be good (the wotsit type things).
As others have said, I won't buy value eggs as I only buy free range. Some value fruit and veg can be good, but check whether it is cheaper per 100g than the loose version as sometimes it's not.
Value recommendations- OJ, biscuits, tinned tomatoes.
 Hope that helps

Id never ever give up my Nescafe coffee am addicted to the stuff...its kept me sane through some rough times, but am cutting back on the number of mugs I have.
Plus cooking from scratch means I control what goes into my food and it surprisingly worked out much cheaper and with the recipes from the OS board you cant not win on the Value versus Branded scenario.
Am off to find this Weetabix cake and brownie recipe anyone got it please.

cannot bring myself to continue buying value loo roll.....am using twice as much soap now .....if you know what I mean?????
 Also, washing powder.
For these items, i save up and bulk buy from costco or macro.
Other than that....my trolly is a collection of white red and blue
oh, just remembered eggs, bought my first value eggs last week and dont think will do that again. Shells are very thin and keep breaking into food when you break it open and there is always this funny white gloopy bit attached to the yolk which i HAVE to remove before cooking. Have only been using them for baking now. Will go back to my more expensive free range ones next week.DFW 228 LONG H 68

I won't buy cheap coffee either, but local poundstretchers seems to get cheap nescafe in quite a lot ( so still cheap, but not cheap brand, if you know what I mean) I also don't buy cheap fabric softener really thin & doesn't leave the washing smelling of anything & kitchen roll, always buy bounty as tend to use much less as it is better.
Cheap tinned tomatoes beans, & ketchup & biscuits are fine by meComping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

Fabric conditioner and hair conditioner are the same stuff, just a different consistency.
I was in Waitrose last night (only for the bargains) and they had a posh Nicky Clarke hair conditioner reduced to £1.00. It's now mixed with water to make fabric conditioner and it's done a great job on this mornings washing!:TDebt @ LBM - 15th Dec 07 = £33,223 / 9 weeks on = £32,130 (over 1k paid off)

            I'm a Tesco Value Queen.
We're horribly in debt so needs must and all that.
The only thing I actually can't bear is Value Mayonaise. (but the next one up - Tesco's Own Brand is fine.)
I'd rather not eat the rubbery white bread or the grey scummy tea bags either if I'm honest, but we have done.
Other than that, Tesco Value is the mainstay of our shopping.
