I won't buy "Value" tea, but will buy Sainsbury's Red Label. But to be honest, the "named" brands are on special so often, it's not worth it.

Same goes for coffee, but I have a large tub of coffee which will probably last be beyond retirement at the rate I drink it.

I won't buy supermarket meat, full stop.

I don't often buy cornflakes, but they have to be Kelloggs. Stuff like weetabix and shreddies, the rip-offs are ok.

Everything else is pretty much up for grabs.

If your yoghurt is too runny, then heat up some cornflour (or rice milk should work) up in a saucepan until you get a "gloop". Then stir it into your yoghurt. It's called "modified starch" and it's in *everything*...

Tesco's own version (Not Value) are exactly the same as
the Kellogg's Cornflakes, as are the Honey Nut version too

Just had a big bowl now :D
  • I use the Value ketchup as a substitute for tomato puree - if Antony Worrall Thompson can, then so can I!!

The Value weetabix's are excellent for making the weetbix cake or weetabix brownies on the OS board.

  • Straight answer - No

I avoid them at all costs.

I dont mind down grading a level on some products but the value range of products in my opinion is not nice.

I cook everything from scratch with good quality ingredients so dont really spend a fortune anyway. What money that is available for food budget is spent on quality products.

We have tried them over the years but beans, tomato sauce, spaghetti, tea, coffee, squash, toilet roll, meat, bread products are all horrible.

I would rather have less of a better product than more of a cheap one.
  • Coffee, I was given a cup of the cheap stuff by my MIL last week & nearly threw up trying to drink the filthy muck.

And there is the unspoken assumption that she *wasn't* deliberately trying to poison you...

  • Won't touch:

    Value meat, because, well <shudders>.
Value Eggs, can't stand battery eggs for weither taste or the way its produced.
Value coffee, I'll wait till the good stuff is on offer. (don't like nescafe much either)
    Oh, and Value toilet roll

    Will have
Value beans and tin tomatoes, slightly runnier, but I can live with that.
Value Musli, cheap as chips and tastes ok (eating a bowl now)
various others, depends on the price difference really. Sometimes when the brands are on offer its not enough of a price difference to bother downgrading.
